Hello all,
I am thinking of possible starting a new limited 305 sprint car class to race in 2011 around the western indiana,eastern illinois area.
I know there has been others for steel blocks,and know everyone will be skeptical of anything right now, and I cant blame them.
But, I think I have come up with a solid plan,with rules,that will never change once racing begins.And be truly affordable,truly fair to all.

If there seems to be enough interest, I will pursue this alone,and see where it leads. May only be one track or two, maybe just a few races the first year, maybe nothing will come of it, but I am willing to try for all of you out there that feel left out and put upon lately.

I've wondered why 305s hadn't jumped across the stateline from OH. There are strong fields weekly at Attica and Fremont on dirt the Buckeye 305s have been running around on asphalt for at least 15 years. Any ideas why it hasn't happened yet? Is it that the cost of buying and running a used NW 410 isn't that much higher than a 305? Anybody know how the costs and expenses for the two really compare?

they got 305s at knoville and several other tracks cross the mississippi and in pennsylvania i beleive. like 360s have become the expense to compete is exploding out of control.

Seems like there are two types of 305's. Divisisons built on the Racesaver series, and everything else. If I were going to start, I would make sure that my rules were not complete one offs.

Being a 305 series, that means you probably dont have the funds to drive to iowa,ohio,penn.....or them to come here to run for nickles and dimes..or would want to waste the money to do so. As long as it is a fair,affordable series, there is no reason to copy all their rules to a tee.
I have read their rules. Mine are cheaper. period.
I wont make you buy steel wheels,I wont let $1,000 dollar alum heads in,I wont make you buy a spec tire.My engines to sell will be less than half price of the so called"saver" series.
My idea is not for a universal national series, that would be stupid.
I do not agree with aluminum heads,and there will be none.
It is a very local deal,with black and white rules, that you cant argue will contain cost.
The racer/owner can build his own to our rules, and get it inspected and sealed,or I will offer a long block,minus injectors and mag for around $3500.
I will have complete legal heads for around $300 per pair.

There is nothing to argue about. Black and white. either you want to be a part of this, or not.It makes ABSOLUTELY no difference to me, as I can go play golf and forget about racing forever and be perfectly happy.
I am not in this for an argument,there is enough drama in my life.
Just thought about helping the low dollar racer as well providing a stepping stone from the mini sprint to a full sprint.
Remember,this is JUST an idea so far.I got tired of people saying,"if I ran a series", or "someone should"......well, I decided to step up and give it a shot,only if y'all want.
If I dont get enough people interested, then no big deal, I will drop it.

Excellent question.
basically chassis costs will be the same(same car) with the exception with our series, you cant use cockpit adjustable shocks,or chassis adjusters.That takes the advantage of $1,000 a piece shocks away.
Engine wise, our long block will be priced around $3500,just add your injectors and mag.(if you cant or dont want to build your own.)
You will be allowed to build your own, but we must inspect and seal it.
You can get a used 410 engine around $8,000 and up, but will have little chance to be competitive enough to give you a legit chance to win against the very good field out there week in and week out.
And if you break it, much much more expensive and longer to fix.

If, and big if,this series happens, your schedule will be limited, and there may only be a track or two. If you want to run every week, this probably wont happen with us.

My only question is where do you plan on running these? Most dirt tracks in Indiana already run 3-5 different classes on a regular basis. Do you think this will replace one of those or just add on another one? Not trying to be negative, but I personally don't see a need at this point. We don't need to add classes to already crowded regular shows and we certainly don't need to water down already lower car counts in other classes. JMO.

Thank you for your input.You may be right, and you may be the majority out there. I just dont know.THAT is why I am wanting to hear from everyone.I have taken several calls from people excited about the chance of being able to run a sprint car without having to mortgage their house.
To them, there is a need.
If it gets that far,maybe run a top wing, to make them different,and a novelty in this area.I am open to all ideas.
I am a sprint car owner/driver,been born into it,its been a part of my family since 1919. I have seen and experienced almost all my friends and fellow racers quit because of the absurd cost.The ones still in it are only doing so for the love of it, and are never in contention to win many races,and know it.
Maybe there are just so many sprint cars in this area, with huge unlimited budgets, that the majority doesnt care about the little guy any more.

This idea is just that, an idea.to see how many there might be, THEN searching for a fitting track or tracks.
I will agree, there are many classes now,and it is out of necessity for promoters to stay alive.If, after I do get many people interested, then I can approach a promoter with numbers.for possible dates.
The ill fated SCORA steel block series had no trouble fitting in nicely at several tracks,before it was nuked from within.Promoters want to hear numbers when you talk to them.20 cars or more that will run a much lower purse than 410 tends to get their attention.
I'm not about to put the cart before the horse here.The starting point is for people interested to call me.Without numbers, I am not doing anything.

I am giving my vote and approval to this idea. With this system a racer can be involved in a fun sport of Sprint Cars without the outlandish expense that it now takes. I was the first winner of 305 Sprint Cars at Attica, Ohio in 1988. They started with four cars the first night, but with a promoter that stuck with the idea, it did not take many weeks to build a field of 20 plus cars. I feel with the proper support and some leg work this can become a successful venture and will give alot of people a chance to run a Sprint Car. I know from a fans standpoint that they would rather go to a track that would replace a fendered class with a Sprint Car class. The money would make this possible both on the racers part and be affordable to the race tracks. You guys that are interested, let Curt know. You might want to contact French Grimes or one of the other region leaders that run under the RaceSaver 305 spec. I've attended both the PASS series and Virginia Sprints and both put on very good racing for 305's.

From a completely selfish point of view, please consider Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, IL as a potential venue. I am sick and tired of knowing there is a very nice track sitting idle so close by.
