Just saw this.

Sprnts,Mods,600Micro's at Vermilion County Oct 2

Non-Wing Sprints will return to the ¼ mile semi-banked dirt oval of the Vermilion County Fairgrounds in Danville Illinois this Saturday night October 2nd. The evening’s events will involve the fans directly and will have a common theme that we need them to come out and “SAVE THE RACE TRACK.” The news has been spreading that the race track with so much history and side by side racing for the last 50 plus years may come to an end after the 2010 season unless the fan support and car counts turn the opinions of the Vermilion County Fairboard to a more positive outlook for 2011. Special thanks goes out to the Vermilion County Fairboard for giving it one more shot to “SAVE THE RACE TRACK” with a great show this Saturday night.

This will be a twilight event that will feature the Non-Wing Sprints paying $1200 to Win and $200 to start the 25 Lap A-Main.
$50 Tow Money is Guaranteed to anyone not starting the feature event.

Sprint Car A-Main Payout:
1200,600,500,400,375,350,300,275,250,225,215,210,( 13-20) $200.
We Are Proud To Announce That This Will Be An American Sprint Car Tour POINTS Event!!!!

As soon as I read the first line I immediately thought that this had to be the ASCT. Can't think of any group I would rather have "SAVE THE RACE TRACK". First word of the race comes a week before the show and it is scheduled against the last night at Granite City. Yup, makes sense to me.

However, Chris' post makes me to root for this event. Can anyone help but believe that would result in the largest crowd of all time for an Indiana Sprint Week show (or totally kill the gate, not sure which)?

Better make sure you have a ISW date first Chris, or do you have some inside info

He didn't say there would be a crowd, he just said he would streak during sprint week. Is it streaking if nobody is there to see it?:2:

Id sure hope we would have one. I think we did rather well with the opportunity we had. And you're right, it would kill the gate lol

I hope you don't get arrested for showing too little? Sorry, I just had to say it.

I believe that Steve Thomas and his dad Al are trying to keep racing alive in Danville. I would give them pretty good odds of getting this race in. Whether this gives them enough traction to keep the track alive for any more racing at VCS remains a question.

It would be great if Steve and his dad can pull this off. However, with all of the excess baggage that the ASCT brings along, I think it will hurt rather than help. Just my opinion and again, I hope that they can be successful with this show on such short notice.

With the Gold Crown Nationals at Granite City and the Fall Nationals at Lawrenceburg they have some competition for sure. Good luck.

I agree. I love Danville and attended the sprint shows even though it is over 120 miles from home. From what I have seen, Steve and his dad have the best interests of sprint racing at heart. As you noted, the excess baggage and schedule are certainly a handicap, but I hope that they are successful. Danville is an excellent sprint car track and I certainly hope that it can be successful and have a complete schedule next year, or at least some special shows. I thought the crowd at the Illinois Sprint Week show was very good sized, so there are certainly fans who will show up if sprints are there.

Good luck Steve and Al!
