Charles in Charge of ASCS Canyon Region at USA

Lonnie Wheatley, TUCSON, Ariz. (June 26, 2010) – Charles Davis, Jr., bolstered his American Sprint Car Series Canyon Region points lead by snaring his fourth series victory of the season in Saturday night’s 30-lap main event at USA Raceway.

After assuming command in the final rounds, Davis, Jr., held off two-time series champ Jeremy Sherman in traffic to secure the win aboard the Roush Yates Ford-powered Massey Motorsports No. 50 entry.

Leading the way from the pole position, Josh Pelkey was within ten circuits of his first ASCS win until clipping an infield tire and collecting second-runner Rick Ziehl in the process.

Davis, Jr., assumed the point and beat Sherman to the stripe, with Stevie Sussex, 14th-starter Andrew Reinbold and Ronnie Clark rounding out the top five.

Chris Bonneau was sixth, with “B” Main winner Bruce St. James, J.T. Imperial, Brian Hosford and Bob Ream, Jr., completing the top ten.

Pelkey, Ziehl and Ream, Jr., topped Saturday night’s heat race action before St. James won the “B” Main.

Isaac Zaragoza picked up his first Factory Stock feature event after taking the lead from Kalvin Catlin. Zaragoza used lap traffic to move the Earth Mover Tires 3z into the lead for the final laps of the 20-Lap event with Catlin crossing the line a close 2nd with Dan Gauthier rounding out the top three.

Ted Robinson captured his fourth victory of 2010 by taking the checkered flag in the 20-lap X-Modified feature. Robinson moved to the front from his 6th starting spot and crossed the line ahead of Jesse Patterson and Terry Churchwell who took the show position.

Andy Eatwell and Paul Martin picked up wins in little car action. Eatwell captured his 183rd Southwest Modlite victory of the year while Paul Martin took home the trophy for the Arizona Modified Midgets.
