Henning, Post, C. Hicks and Durflinger pick up wins at Waynesfield

June 26, 2010
WAYNESFIELD, Ohio

Waynesfield Raceway Park opened the gates on Saturday evening to the American Mini Sprint Association for the first time in 2010, and was rewarded with a great field of cars. “Hot” Rod Henning picked up the AMSA checkered flag, while Brian Post won the Post Agri-Service UMP Modified feature. In Miracle Motorsports Tuff Truck action it was “The Juggernaut” Chris Hicks getting the win. Justin Durflinger grabbed the checkers in the JR and Sons Service Center Compact A Main.

Starting feature action off was the Miracle Motorsports Tuff Trucks. Defending track champion “Fat” Matt Twining set the early pace from his outside front row starting spot while 26-Jessica Nuss, 1x-Jerry Butler, X-Shawn Jacobs, 71-Chris Hicks, and 33-Mike Hicks all battled for second place on back. The brothers Hicks found themselves racing side by side for the third spot for a few laps until caution waved over the speedway for a spinning truck. When action resumed, #71- Chris Hicks set his sights on race leader Matt Twining. Just past the halfway point, “The Juggernaut” Chris Hicks aboard his #71 “Juggarocket” muscled his way around Twining to grab the point. In the waning laps, Hicks would feel a challenge from the rebounding Twining, but time would run out as Hicks grabbed the victory over Matt Twining, 18-Derrick Noffsinger, 33-Mike Hicks, and 1x- Jerry Butler rounding out the top 5. Heat races were won by X-Shawn Jacobs, and 1x- Jerry Butler.

Next out on the track was the mighty AMSA Mini-Sprints. 4R-Nick Roberts, and 28h “Hot” Rod Henning would pace the field to the green flag, until the red flag flew for a pile up in turns 1 and 2 that would see the #40 of Mark Hery upside down at the bottom of the speedway with 22r Kevin Roberts Jr. parked on top of him. Also involved were the #23 of Devon Dobie, the and the #17 of Adam Jackman, when racing resumed, Henning was able to power away and leave the field while battles waged throughout the rest of the race for position. In the end it was Henning picking up the feature win over 8f-Scott Fasse, 24L-Lee Underwood, 4r-Nick Roberts, and 55x-Rob Winks completing the top 5. Heat races were won by #4r Nick Roberts, #28H Rod Henning, and #4k Kevin Roberts Sr. The B Main was won by Kevin Roberts Jr.

The Post Agri-Service UMP Modifieds would hit the track next for their 20 lap A Main with pole sitter #1c Todd Higgins jumping out to an early lead. The race quickly turned into a race of attrition as caution after caution flew for spinning race cars on the now slick surface at WRP. Higgins tried mixing up his start points, and was doing a great job until a restart near the middle of the feature saw #45p-Brian Post able to muscle his way inside of Higgins and grab the lead exiting turn 2. Higgins would come to a stop the next lap with something broke on his machine and would call it a night. Post would survive a wild night of racing to pick up the feature win, with #28 Chad Rosenbeck closing in late to finish 2nd, #00-Jon Brooks in third, #5x-Shawn Bayliff, and #67-Eddie Shaner rounding out the top 5. Heat races were won by #00 John Brooks, #67 Eddie Shaner, and #45p Brian Post.

Wrapping up racing action was the JR and Sons Service Center Compacts. #518 Jordan Iiams would jump out to the early race lead with #25s-Nick Frazier and #7 Ethan Pope in tow. Defending track champion “The Jet” Jeff Kimes in the Rush Creek Gardens #31 and #71 Justin Durflinger began to close in and make their way to the front, making daring moves to get by the leaders, often going 3 and even 4 wide, until they found themselves side by side battling for the lead. Meanwhile the #7 of Ethan Pope hung close behind the leaders for several laps but would have nothing for lead pair as they once again dueled to the finish with Durflinger grabbing the win over Kimes, Pope would finish third, with 518-Jordan Iiams and #82 Harvey Yoder completing the top 5. Heat races were won by Durflnger and Kimes.
