I happened to be one of the "lucky ones" to witness the event and completely concur with the above statement. It was 360 wangers, and it was the best race I've ever seen. Called the Flip-FLop 50, was a new twist of an old school format where they run two equal paying 25 lap features. The first feature lined the cars up as the qualified and transferred in. The second feature inverted the entire field based on the 1st feature finish. Extra money has hung out there for anyone winning both. The first feature was ho-hum and the second feature was unbelievably awesome.
Hammerhead started P16 and Slamin Sammy was P20. It was a flat out, rim riding, who's got the biggest set of kahunees affair. It was .... Let me say my ultimate wish would be that Dean Mills was silently setup on both ends of the track and Kevin Eckert sitting in the bleachers. Then the whole racing world could have the opportunity to form their own opinion. |

Sounds like it was one fun night at the ol' race track. Wish I had been there. Tom

I was there as well. Is anyone here really surprised that's how it wound up? I don't know who's fault it was as I was on the backside, but I know I was about as emotionless as I could be when I saw Ricky's front end break and his car spin to a stop.
To sum it up real quick Sammy wins, says in vic lane that Stenhouse "has his head up his ass" then the 40r crew comes out on the track. Heard Rick Sr. hit Sammy then someone hit Sammy in the left eye with a set of brass knuckles then someone out of the blue hit Sr. leaving him with a pretty bad gash above his left eyebrow. I didn't get down to the infield fast enough to see what went down, this is just what I heard. No security or cops around, it was getting wild. Yes it was one of those races you'll never forget if you were there to see it. I just hope we all can see some vid on You Tube soon. |

There were no 1950's Philadelphia debt collectors slinging brassknuckles. I'm certain the brassknuckles myth was started by someone under the juice, as was the early reports that both Stenhouse Sr. & Jr. were badly beaten and bloody messes and Swindell was taking by ambulance for a catscan. Does makes a fiery (fictional) story that's fitting for most local garages.
A closer to truth is Stenhouse Sr got a couple of grazing shots at Sammy before being blindsided by Alex-the-Goon. In turn, Alex-the-Goon was rushed, launching a brawl of sorts. Stenhouse Jr immediately removed left the infield as soon as the extra action started. And in it’s conclusion, there was Stenhouse Sr.'s with a 1” split (as the one Apollo gave Rocky) just below the eyebrow and Sammy requesting a band-aid from the EMTs. At that point we all loaded up and went our merry ways.
