Wayne County Speedway drops Ohio Speedweek from its schedule

Camargo, IL (6-21-09) – The O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions would like to apologize to its fans and all those involved with Ohio Speedweek, but due to circumstances beyond the series control the race originally scheduled for Wayne County Speedway on Monday, June, 22 has been cancelled by the track.
“Regretfully we just got the news this morning,” stated O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions President Guy Webb. “Wayne County Speedway decided to cancel the event without proper notice to the series or fans. We have been trying to contact the track to see if a resolution could be found, but our attempts have been unsuccessful. This was beyond our control and the decision was unfortunately not in our hands.”
Ohio Speedweek will move forward with seven races in eight days. Tonight’s event is at Millstream Speedway where the gates will open at 3:00 pm and racing action is slated to begin at 7:00 pm. Tickets for the event start at $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, ages 16 – 11 are $15, while ages 10 and under are free. Pit Passes for the event will run $30. For more information on the event you can call the trackoffice at (419) 420-1900 or visitwww.millstreamspeedway.com.

According to something from the track on Hoseheads they canceled due to chance of rain and fears of the economy hurting attendance.... ummmm, excuse me but didn't this economy thing start long enough ago that you wouldn't have even BOOKED the show, let alone cancel the day before if you had a fear the economy might hurt it? And who cancels a show this size this early due to MAYBE it MIGHT rain? This will be one track I avoid like the plague......

This date should have went to K-C. One of, if not the best sprint car track in Ohio.

Truth be known, Wayne County probably got slapped with another law suit from the people who are trying to shut them down.

That track has struggled like hell to stay alive and this cancellation comes as no surprise.

Got a link to read or anything to read from the past about lawsuits.

From what I have gathered on other message boards, Wayne County "owns" the Monday Night date in the All-Star sprint week. I don't exactly know what that means and why someone would permantly grant a track a permanent slot. Here is a link to a press release with the tracks spin but it has some facts and history..

To the person looking for links to the track's lawsuit history, I recommend OhioValleyDTR.com and go to the Wayne County forum.

After reading the posts on there concerning the cancellation, it appears most of the local people are blaming the current track operator. Especially when you consider the forecast for Northern Ohio was only calling for a 10% chance of rain.
