Can someone help me on what the driveshaft length should be on a 40" car without the spring in ujoint, and also what it should be with the spring. Should torque tube be 26 1/4"? Thanks :checkered:
One thing you should always make sure of is that you have 1/4"-1/2" of float so that you have enough clearance in the driveline and your driveshaft won't bottom out during the cars suspension travel.
I assume those driveshaft measurements are for an internal coupler.
Also if you run the new small Winters rear you will have to add some to both those figures. 1 5/8th's if I remember right but not positive on that.
1/4 to 1/2 inch float is good. Put it together without the torque tube and level the rear arms before checking. With the arms level, that is as short as the driveline will get.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last week when I was in Indy for the swap meet, so I'm guessing a 39 inch car would use a 28.5" drive shaft without a spring. What length drive shafts would cars use with a spring and why would one use a spring vs not use a spring? I need to decide whether to use a spring or not and cut my shaft to the length I will need.
