One of my Christmas presents was the book "Checkered Past" as told by Al Unser Jr. Growing up in New Mexico, the Unser's were royalty and Little Al was the prince. I knew that he hit some bumps at the end of his career and after he retired from racing. What I did not know is that he was fighting those demons all of his life.

This was a very well written and entertaining book. If you are fans of Little Al or Indy cars, this book is a must read. Not only do you get insight into Little Al, but we learn a lot more about all of the Unser's, Roger Penske, and Tony George. There was also new insight into the famous thumbs up salute after he was wrecked out of the Indy 500.

You can buy it from many outlets, but I am including the link from the publisher. I am assuming that Little Al will make more if you buy it from them than from Amazon or others.

Bobby Unser's "Winners Are Driven" is a great read! The last book I read! (too bad I couldn't apply it to my racing career, or to make a million dollars a year, but lot of little stuff to apply to trying to live a productive life; don't quote me, but I remember smthn in regards to "taking every phone call that comes in you never know it might be a good opportunity". & the way he details his racing career and how he was hands-on, at least in design & testing if I recall, was amazing)

Yes, as mentioned Winners are Driven by Bobby Unser. The Unbelievable Unsers is another, I recently purchased a used book titled The Bobby Unser Story by Joe Scalzo. There may be more books about the Unsers out there, check Amazon. I'm going to start looking for that Checkered Past book soon. I cheered for all of the Unsers back in the day, hope to visit their museum someday.

I have the Bobby Unser story. He was quite the character inn his day. SUPREME confidence. I grew up watching him in the 70's and learned a lot that I never knew about him and his family. I need to check out the Lil Al book and some on Al Sr. VERY interesting and talented family!
