Why doesn't WOO have a Non-Wing Series?
Good Question: Could it work? / Could it work if USAC didn't have a sprint tour?

Heard someone ask this not to long ago and it made me think a lot about the idea of it and now I ask the question here to you guys on IOW.

Yes I know USAC has the national tour; but it did make me think a while on the pros and cons of the concept.

Could it work?
Could it work if USAC didn't have a sprint tour?
Would payouts be what they should be?
What drivers would follow the tour if those payouts where correct in todays age in racing?
What tracks would be on the schedule?
What should the championship points fund be?
How many races would be on the schedule?
What would the race format be?
Could it be successful or would WOO & World Racing Group screw it up?
What would it take for something like this to work and be a successful tour and track promoters wanting to be a part of it?

Ultimately this would probably end up like the Cart/Irl split. Some move on while some stay. The schedule would be longer with more events because it would be sprints only. Usac has too many series and admits it’s not in the promotion business. That would be advantage WRG. It appears from a far Usac is a club and WRG is a business and that’s how it’s run. It would be difficult to start a series and expect the majority of top teams to leave unless it was guaranteed contracted money. I believe WoO dealt with this twice when USA and NST were started. Things always seem to go back to what was. This is an interesting idea as it’s my belief the sprint car series has a lot of talent and the racing is generally really good. Until they stop showing up why would Usac change what it does? They keep on going because guys keep coming back. It could grow but then the teams would need to expand their operations and maybe they aren’t willing to move on to that level. I’d like to see these guys run for more money and be promoted as the best in the country. Unfortunately that’s just not how it is.

The problem for WoO doing a non-winged series is the same problem USAC has when they venture outside the non-winged hotbeds in Indiana, California, Arizona and surprisingly Pennsylvania. Where do they get the other 10-12 cars to fill out the field. Most years 12-15 cars travel to most USAC races, same with the WoO for that matter but its alot easier for WoO to pick up winged cars to fill out their field than it is to find that many non-winged cars in some areas. I hope with that much money on the line that they get a nice car count at Husets but I am wondering how many locals from around here will want to haul that far.

Another issue would be finding tracks that it would work on. Winged cars have the aero needed to run on dry and dusty tracks that the mod and late models demand. Midgets seem to work better than sprints on those tracks.
with traditional sprints it becomes an idle around the huggy pole thing and that makes it hard to draw the crowds needed to attract sponsors and pay the purses that would be needed.

Traditional sprints are growing in some parts of the country so maybe that will help USAC in certain parts of the country as long as they oversee the track prep
