Season Finale Doubleheader Weekend

The 2018 championship chase for the Buckeye Outlaw Sprint Series will come to an end this weekend with a Hoosier Fall Spectacular Weekend at Montpelier Motor Speedway on Saturday and at Kokomo Speedway on Sunday. This annual event at Montpelier typically draws in the vicinity of 40 traditional ground pounding non wing sprints. Sunday's Kokomo event is the rescheduled "Sprint Car Smackdown" featuring both USAC and BOSS sprint cars in separate programs!

Without a doubt, 2018 has been a very trying season. Only 10 of 18 scheduled events have been completed to date. A record 7 rainouts cut the season short along with one race being pulled from under the series due to a make-up event. As rough as the season has been, it will be nice to end on a high note with a quality doubleheader weekend on 2 very well prepared race tracks.

The open wheel veteran, Bill Rose, holds a comfortable lead in the standings. Making the main event at Montpelier and having a good run will all but clinch the 2018 title. Ty Tilton is 90 points from the lead, but would need Rose to struggle at both events in order to have a shot. Only 95 from Tilton is Cody Gardner, who is the only other driver with a mathematical shot at the championship. This trio set themselves apart during the second half of the year and will now settle it among themselves over 2 nights in Indiana.

Paul Dues, Mike Miller, Joe Liguori and Matt Cooley hold positions 4-7 with only 7 points separating them all. Chad Wilson sits in the 8th spot with Kory Crabtree a close 9th. Steve Little has had a year as trying as the BOSS series itself, as he rests in the tenth spot. Bob McMillin, Buddy Lowther Cole Ketcham, Carmen Perigo and Matt Westfall round out the top 15.

Saturday at Montpelier, gates will open at 3 pm with hot laps at 5 and racing action beginning at 6:30. Adult general admission is $20 with children 12 and under free with paid adult. Pit passes are $30 and includes transponder rental for your car. No mufflers are required and fuel will be available at the track.

On Sunday at Kokomo, gates officially open at 2 pm. Hot laps are scheduled for 5 pm with racing action immediately following. The BOSS portion of the program will run first in an effort to get our teams on the road at a decent hour. General admission is $35 with kids 12 and under free with paid adult. Pit passes are $45 and includes transponder rental. The BOSS portion of the program is open ONLY to drivers who have NOT made the A-Main in any of the 6 previous Kokomo Smackdown's. No mufflers are required at Kokomo.

Both events this weekend will be the standard $1,500 to win / $250 to start payouts with the pill draw format. Teams can get paid after each night or choose to get one check after night number 2. Teams may also choose to have their checks mailed to them Monday morning if they need to get on the road immediately following the main event.

A 10% off discount on hotels has been offered by the Gas City, Indiana Best Western and Super 8 Hotel. Ask for the "BOSS Racer's Rate". Phone Best Western at 765-998-2331 and the Super 8 at 765-997-8096. IF you reserve a room, cancellations must be made by FRIDAY morning at 9 am. The 10% discount is available through Saturday night as long as rooms are available.
