![]() Midgets Return To Montpelier For Back To Back Weekends on June 18 and June 25 After hosting a barn burner USAC Indiana Midget week opener featuring a multitude of slide jobs between the leaders and an eventual A Main win by Kyle Larson, Midgets will return to the Montpelier Motor Speedway for back to back weekends on Saturday, June 18 and Saturday, June 25 The event will feature the Montpelier’s Midget Series which features full size Midgets and unlimited power plants and allows a platform for other engines including Focus, Ecotech, and Motorcycle powered entries to compete utilizing an unlimited weight break and additional tire width. The Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget Series features an open tire brand and compound rule. The event will also feature a 2nd and separate trophy dash for the USAC Midwest Thunder Midget series. The series has car counts of 22 cars at both of the three previous events sponsored by Leaders Edge of Indianapolis, Indiana The May 21st event found a familiar Montpelier Motor Speedway name in Victory Lane with the series all-time win leader, Shane Hollingsworth, picking up the feature victory over 21 feature event starters. Hollingsworth won the event;however, it was a hard fought event with the race being dominated early by Pennsylvania's Tony Dimattia with Okahoma's Tyler Nelson and Chett Gehrke also spending time battling for the lead. Gage Etgen enters the weekend as the points leader with a slim 4 point lead over Logan Arnold while Gunnar Lucius holds an advantage over Travis Young and Jacob Taylor for Rookie of the Year honors. The Montpelier Motor Speedway, which began racing in 1903 and hosted its first automobile race in 1915, is one of America’s oldest remaining racing facilities. While the east central Indiana ¼ mile clay oval has a historic past, the facility has seen many major modern upgrades the past four seasons including new restrooms and bleachers along with the addition of many safety features such as a new catch fence system along with a new front stretch wall, lighting system, transponder scoring, and corner runoff areas. The Montpelier Motor Speedway commonly competes weekly on Saturday Nights with its popular Modified and Stock Car divisions and is also the host to the popular Montpelier Motor Speedway Midget series.
