UAW to Present the Sprint Car Challenge UAW Mechanic of the Year Award

Leadership of The Greater Marion County UAW Cap Council of Indianapolis and officials of the Sprint Car Challenge Series, Built by the UAW have announced that the United Auto Workers will present the 2013 Mechanic of the Year Award to the deserving Chief Mechanic in the non-wing pavement series. The award will consist of a trophy and a check for $500.00.

The Mechanic of the Year award will be presented to the Sprint Car Challenge Series, Built by the UAW chief mechanic based on performance and who best exemplifies the working spirit, innovation and sportsmanship of the UAW. The winner must also hold a 2013 USSA crew license and compete in all the USSA events.

“We are pleased that the UAW has given us the chance to recognize some of the hardest working people in racing, the chief mechanics, in a meaningful way,” said USSA President Don Kenyon.

The chief mechanics represent the work ethic of the men and women of the UAW who build the cars, truck, farm implements and aerospace vehicles that we all rely on in our day to day lives.

“As we in the UAW continue to create partnerships within the motorsports industry that will present opportunities for our employers and members to produce precision products for the motorsports industry we can think of no other people at the forefront of racing who could help us to achieve this goal other than the chief mechanics. We are honored to have this opportunity,” said Greater Marion County UAW CAP Council Chairperson Danny Ernstes.”

The Sprint Car Challenge Series, Built by the UAW will kick-off the 2013 racing season with the 100-lap Glen Niebel Classic at Anderson Speedway in Mid-April.
