As 35 Raceway Park Beats the Rain
Frankfort Ohio May 3rd:
In the Mod Lite action it was Mikey Hay of Summerset PA who took the lead from Richie Armentrout on lap 3 as Toby Boetcher pressured Hay the next 25 laps, pulling along aide as they exited turn 2 on lap 23 with the 6G of Dennis Lamphier making it a 3 way battle for the last 10 laps. On lap 27 Lamphier took the 2nd spot from Boetcher as Hay took the $600 win with Boetcher 3rd, Tyler Reno 4th and Armentrout completing the top 5 spots for the evening in the Mod Lite Spring 30 sponsored by Greenlawn Homes.
In the 600cc Mini Sprints it looked as if Jared Horstman would take the win after starting 2nd. But just past the half way point of the 20 lap event Horstman over drove his mount and drove off the race track on the back stretch. With the yellow out for him he was regulated to the tail leaving Kevin Roberts and Jamie Paul as the new front runners. As Paul and Roberts battled with Chris Smalley at there heels waiting on an opportunity to pass. At the finish it was Roberts, Paul, Smalley, with Horstman recovering to 4th and Beau Stewart rounding out the top 5 places.
James Ball took the 20 lap Mini Late Model Feature for his 1st win of 2008, but not without pressure from 2nd place Chip Truitt who dueled door to door with Ball as Todd Ervin took 3rd and Scott Henry 4th with Jimmy Corley 5th. Talk in the pits of several new cars coming next week for the Mini Late Model class as some cars just are not ready yet.
One of the better races of the night was the 4 Cylinder Stocks, as Mike Carpenter, Zach Ackley, Rodney Rittenhouse, Slade Mack, Jerry Hixon all made a race of it. At the finish it was Carpenter who started 7th taking the win, Zach Ackley 2nd, Rittenhouse 3rd, Mack 4th and Hixon placing 5th for the evening after the 20 circuits were complete.
The Sportsman Dwarf car class continues to grow as word spreads of a payout now versus the trophies. The class had ran for several laps with Ricky Roberts, Shane Rittenhouse and Gary Griffith trading places thru out the event as the finish it was Roberts 1st holding on to the points lead, Shane Rittenhouse 2nd, Gary Griffith 3rd, Kevin Rittenhouse 4th and Josh Clifton after starting 8th finished 5th.
In the 1000cc Mini Sprints Ryan Broughton put on a driving clinic as he lead 18 of the 20 lap event, not to say he went unchallenged, as wild Bill Kilgour pressured him continuously until Kilgour fell victim to mechanical failure at lap 17 leaving Jeff Barnhart to challenge Broughton. At the finish it was Broughton, Barnhart, Justin Roberts 3rd , Kevin Roberts Sr 4th and Ricky Taylor 5th.
