Ignoring the threat of rain, 53 UMP Modifieds and 153 cars total rolled into the hallowed ground that IS Lincoln Park Speedway for the last leg of the Midwest Modified Summer Series. Under the new promotional efforts of Joe Spiker and his staff, LPS has not only seen some improvements in the form of cosmetic upgrades, but having a primary business as an excavator left Spiker with only 1 choice and it was to make improvements to the track surface. Many different processes have been tried throughout the year, but any who were in attendance last night can tell your, the track was great for breeding side by side action!!!!

Walking through the pit area before the night started, you knew the 50 lap A-Main event was going to be VERY tough to get into. Daryl Herbert, Clint DeMoss, Jamie Wilson and Gabe Menser, who ran second the night before at LPS, were just a few of the names everyone would be looking to for the side by side action they expected. All cars qualified in the group they would run their portion of the 6 heat races on the card, but you had to have your game face on, because only 2 transferred with 4 cars coming out of the 3 B-Mains. After a 6 lap dash for the Heat winners, the 24 car starting field was set to see who would take home the $2,000 or the MMM Hard Charger Award of a new tire. At the drop of the green, it was unclear who would be the one to beat. DeMoss, Brian Hayden, and Menser all looked good while back in the pack, Roger Williams, Craig Conyer and a very hard charging Shelby Miles were battling for the Hard Charger award.

After the 10 minute halfway pit stop, where teams could do anything to their cars to make them better, Jamie Wilson and Clint DeMoss were battling hard, but that was nothing compared to the driving clinic these two fierce competitors put on for the final 25 laps. DeMoss was true to his nickname of "Catfish" with a very consistent line on the bottom while Wilson Race Cars builder Jamie Wilson was workin the topside, with these two staying side by side for the entire 25 laps. With just a handful of laps to go, you could see DeMoss carrying the speed deeper into the corners, but Wilson mimicked his move. With one last dive into turn 3 DeMoss let it all hang out pulling up to the rear quarter panel of the 61 machine, setting up a drag race off turn four, but Wilson was just too tough on top taking the checkered and the $2,000 top prize. Not too bad for a guy who has only raced 7 times this year!!!! DeMoss finished a close second just ahead of Gabe menser, Shelby Miles and Brad Borrow rounded out the top 5

Although Craig Conyer, Shelby Miles and Roger Williams did a fantastic job moving their way up through the pack, Roger Pearcy was awarded the Midwest Modified Madness Hard Charger Award finishing 12th.

It was a great night and the racers drove their hearts out to put on one whale of a show for the fans. The MMM would like to thank each and every one of them who signed in for the nights action and thanks also goes out to Joe Spiker and all of his staff at LPS for all of their hard work on the improvements at the facility. On a side note, Chris Nunn did some live coverage from the track, which even included some LIVE video (get a better battery Chris!!). Thanks Chris.

The MMM staff would like to thank everyone who came to any of our events this year!!!! Kankakee, Shady Hill, Gas City, Montpelier and Lincoln Park all took chances on the series and we had some great car counts with an average of 43....We hope to put on even better events in 2011 to continue to grow this into something so the modified racers in this area can be showcase their talents and be recognized as a premier class instead of a support class.....
