Angell Park Speedway – BMARA to part ways
Angell Park Speedway has announced that they will not be sanctioned by Badger Midget Auto Racing Association for the 2010 race season. Angell Park Speedway and Badger Midget Auto Racing Association have been engaged in negotiations since October of 2009. Neither party has been able to come to an agreement as to the direction of midget racing at Angell Park. Angell Park Speedway will continue to have a weekly midget show each week scheduled to kick off the season May 16, 2010. The representatives of Angell Park Speedway would like to take this time to thank the Badger group that also dedicated a great amount of time to the assignment. We also recognize and would like to extend great thanks to Badger for their time and effort in the past. The new series at this time will be referred to as The Angell Park Speedway Auto Racing Association (APSARA). Angell Park Speedway will continue to provide the best weekly midget show in the country and has already released new programs to attract more cars on a weekly basis. Angell Park Speedway is currently looking for a director of competition, a flagman, 1 -2 score keepers and a tech person. All interested people shall call the track at 608-837-5252 or e-mail a letter of interest to angellpark@spwl.net. To obtain more information as it becomes available check out the Angell Park Speedway website at www.angellpark.com |

All I can say is WOW! I haven't been there in 7 or 8 years but Angell Park and Badger almost seemed to one in the same.

It should read, "What will happen to Angell Park Speedway now?"
The fans will stay away as will the Badger teams, Angell Park will be housing project within a few years. Throw in the crap going on with UMARA, midget racing in the upper midwest appears to be heading into rough times. I'll let Jim Anderson comment on the UMARA situation. |

Wilmot Speedway has booked BMARA for 2010. Not sure of the date[s].

One of the midgets at the Chili Bowl (don't remember which one) displayed fliers from Angell Park promising $1,000 to car owners who showed up for 8 shows. The flyer did specify that they had to have a driver for the car also. I was surprised at the time, but now it makes sense.

AP looking for flagmen, scoring people, director of competition, tech person? What are the rules that these people are to enforce? what is the purse the $1000 to appear? the firemen have a tough road ahead of them it is not that easy to capture what is left for cars.

A short history of midget auto racing.
On June 4, 1933 at Sacramento, CA they held the first sanctioned midget race. On June 5, 1933, somebody had a bright idea they could do a better job. Nothing has changed since. |

What's that old phrase: Don't cut off your nose to spite your face? APS, you not only cut off your nose, you shot yourself in the foot, hell both feet really. I hope someone or some group can come to their senses and make a regional midget series in MN/WI/IL/IA/MI and northern IN that runs both pavement and dirt, has about 20-25 races a year. It would be a good way to get the chronic P&M fits and the bad promoters to stop and see what really is happening out there. |
