UMRA Invades Rushville Friday and Saturday
This Friday and Saturday the UMRA TQ Midgets will race at the Rush County Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Rush County Fair. The traditional races will be the second and third of the five races scheduled at the legendary track. A year ago the Rush County Fair races were action-packed and resulted in two drivers taking their first trips to victory lane. On Friday night in 2008, Bobby Walton of Shelbyville was able to expertly maneuver through traffic and take an emotional win that rewarded over a decade of effort. On Saturday night, Patrick Wolf of Arlington made his maiden voyage to the winners circle after a very popular victory. The first UMRA race at Rushville in 2009 on June 6 had all of the action and emotion that folks come to expect at the venerable fairgrounds track as it looked like the lead was not the place to be. Doug Roland led early in the going but was sidelined by mechanical problems which handed the lead to Scott Petry. Petry appeared to be headed to his first win in a year until he crashed while in traffic just seven laps from the finish of the 25-lap feature. This gave the lead to 1993 UMRA Champion Travis Welpott who was able to hold on and take a win that he had dreamt a night earlier. Along with the action and excitement of the TQ Midgets this weekend, Saturday will see the mini sprints have a return engagement. On June 6, young Sara Elrod dominated the 20-lap mini sprint feature but will definitely be challenged if she wants to repeat on Saturday night. The two Rushville races this weekend will give the UMRA drivers two chances to compete for additional prizes. The winners of the trophy dashes and features will receive certificates from the Dutch Mill Buffet in Millroy while the “Hard Charger of the Race” will get five gallons of fuel from G&G Oil. The kids will also want to be sure come out to the races this weekend because the UMRA bike giveaways will be making their way back to Rushville. Gates on Friday and Saturday open at 3:00 pm, practice is at 5:30, qualifying at 6:15, and racing starts at 7:00! Top Ten In UMRA Points Standings (After Five Races) 1. Terry Goff 746 2. Brent Turner 675 3. Oogie Goff 637 4. Brandon Gray 574 5. Zach Cougill 556 6. Tim Lynch 504 7. Trent Henderson 458 8. Ron Combs 456 9. Robbie Roland 396 10. Jeremy Rainwater 386 |

TQs, minis AND fair food! What could be better than eating a fresh, hot elephant ear while watching some good racing. Great qualifying run at Anderson Brandon, 2nd quick time!

I was just wondering if anyone knows whether Brent Turner, Trent Henderson, or both will be at Rushville on Saturday? If so, will they be in their "normal" cars? Just curious...
Thanks! |
