I'm not the one making claims here, you are. All I asked was for your references or sources of information you are using to make your claim. Isn't that fair to ask someone?

What claim (statement) is bothering you? Are you worried that some youth will try the bread filter deal and go blind? That ethanol is a poor choice of motor fuel or that coal miners are out of work because the tree hugging folk in the EPA want to close down the coal power industry? None of which have a lot to do with racing except that government supported Ethanol is a rather poor choice for a race fuel. I also think there is a government conspiracy to turn off my thumbs up smiles!!! Honest Dad himself

I do not see any highlight? Would you be so kind as to put it back into print. It sounds as if it is very important to you, for some reason. I really did not get on this board to write my masters thesis. Let's do this All in good fun. Please don't get so uptight, in 100 Years it will probably even be funny to you. Honest Dad himself Your "Mother" would have to be pretty low to turn off my-thumbs up smiley faces!!!!!

My point was that our whole sport has some tough decisions to make. I love our traditions as much as anybody but we've got to decide where we want to take the sport from here. Up till now we've been able to hold things together (more or less) based on some pretty antiquated engine technology. We've been able to remain RELEVANT as a sport, even though our engine tech was becoming increasingly irrelevant. A lot of that ability can be attributed to the amazing staying power of the small block Chevy and its 4 cyl derivatives. As long as the small block was reasonably current, so was the rest of our package.
Well gang, we're not quite there yet but soon the small block will be officially a vintage racing motor. And our choice is to get out in front of that development and decide where we want our sport positioned - we are rapidly approaching a crossroad where we'll have to decide whether USAC-style racing wants to be come a vintage division or a whether we want to remain on the cutting edge. Engines are changing, fuels are changing, audiences are changing.... the writers have all said quite a bit about how the whole open wheel demographic is aging... We are not going to turn that around with two valves and push rods. So, we have to decide - do we go down the vintage path or do we take steps to preserve our heritage while also upgrading our technology? I don't see any other realistic choices. Oh, and ethanol from corn is a STUPID way to make fuel.

I am one of them 47 percent people, I'm drawing my social security check, have white hair and been around racing for a long time. That does not prohibit me from seeing the future of racing and this old white hair according to my contracts allows me to say something about it. If it is good electronics and 4 valves I will say something if it is bad Ethanol and antique motors I will also say something. IOW is my choice for getting the info out there. O'l nobody and I have been doing a pretty good job of keeping this subject up toward the top and getting people to read and think. It is good to have some expert advice along the way to add credence to the topic. Good or bad USAC has hitched it's wagon to Ethanol. Good for the racer because of bigger purses--Bad for the racers because they have to make it work. You are correct in saying that Ethanol needs to be run with an electronic engine management system. The old mechanical injection does not have the ability to operate the engine with just slow speed, barrel valve and high speed control valves and keep it happy at all times. Using electronic engine management systems a shop like yours could very quickly adjust the F/A ratio for every 500 to 1000 rpm's closer if you want and make a really good package. I crunched some numbers and it looks to me like for a team to change over would be between $4500.00 team doing most of the work to $8000.00 turn key. That would be a lot of money to me, but compared to a $30,000.00 engine the number does not look that big and it would be a one shot deal. I could do it for myself for about $3500.00 parts only. When you got done you would probably have a very dependable and race ready engine package that could perform well on Ethanol. The big problem is I feel like Clint Eastwood except I got a Block wall instead of a chair-- kinda reminds me of how dumb I was to my kids when they were teenagers. This is an important subject to all racers Mr. Somebody needs to do something about it. Make it optional and in 3 years the old stuff would have filtered out of the system and be long gone. Racers are supposed to lead the way and make improvements to the Auto not stand still and follow! Honest Dad himself (Two thumbs up)
