Proper and Improper Use of Prescription and Over-the-Counter
Medications/Substances
USAC recognizes that there are many prescription and over-the-counter medications that
serve essential or beneficial purposes for the health and well-being of Competitors and Officials,
and nothing in this Policy is intended to discourage the proper use of these medications. Just as
importantly, however, it must be recognized that there are some medications that, even when
properly used, may adversely affect a participant's fitness to be involved in a racing event or
events. For example, many types of cough medicines contain codeine, which is a potent narcotic
that may result in drowsiness or diminished alertness.
Misuse and the illegal use, acquisition or distribution of a prescription or over-the-counter
medication or any mind-altering or addictive substance by an individual is prohibited and, for these
purposes, is deemed to be the use of such a medication in a manner which is inconsistent with the
instructions provided by the manufacturer, pharmacist and/or the prescribing physician. In
addition, illegal use, acquisition, or distribution of any prescription
drug, over-the-counter medication, or any mind-altering and/or addictive substance are strictly
prohibited at any time. For example, it is a violation of this Policy for an individual to use a
prescription or over-the-counter medication in a manner that is not consistent with the intended and
medically-prescribed use.
To the extent that USAC in its sole discretion determines that the use of any prescribed
medication or other substance, including properly prescribed prescription drugs and properly used
over-the-counter medications, causes an individual to have a diminished or impaired ability to
perform his or her duties on the day of an Event, those substances shall be deemed to be prohibited
substances for purposes of this Policy.

The real issue is...how many illegal phone calls were made to obtain these drugs and did they exceed the limit?? Cell phone call history should be checked at the gate

there used to be, for the most part, one reason someone doesn't show up for events such as the one at Manzy, money. Now there's two. I don't think it's all that stupid. If you can't pass the test, why go all of the way out there? They can go back 30 days on marijuana nowadays so, if you caught a buzz 28 days before a race at a birthday party, your more than likely screwed. Now you can argue whether or not, someone who gets stoned once in a while ever deserves to be in a race car, but, before you "holier than thou" folks get up on your high horse and start screaming, Jan Opperman would have been banned from the sport! Think of what we would have missed!

I thought it would be hard to top the OS move but I would say this is arguably the best move by Kevin Miller to date. I sure hope he has a few more up his sleeve.

As an aircraft mechanic, drug tests are a way of life for me. I get tested on average, 3 times a year. All random and with less than an hours notice.

I do see a problem or two with USAC's policy though.

As a licensed mechanic by the FAA, we are allowed to drink alcohol, but there are guide lines that we have to go by.

No alcohol use within 4 hours of reporting to duty is allowed. If a person blows below a .02, you go back to work. .021 to .39 and you go home for the day. If you blow a .040 or higher, 30 days off work and a 30 day rehab has to be attended and there is a reasonable chance that I could lose my license.

For pilots, the rule is "8 hours, bottle to throttle" for any alcohol consumption.

I think that USAC needs to re-evaluate thier tolerance due to the nature of alcohol lingering in your system.

Does Cart, IRL, Nascar, Nation Wide, Arca or Craftman Truck
series have a drug test before entering competition?

If the answer is no, then I don't think USAC should either.

Then all you wanna be's shouldn't mind that the next test
will be a "Lie Detector" test.

Standard question on a Lie Detector test is:

1) Are you an honest person?

2) Do you steal? Have you ever stolen?

3) Would you cheat on your wife?

4) Have you ever had an extra marital affair?

5) Have you ever looked at ***********?

6) Would you accept a bribe. Have you ever taken money
for favors?


As we try to be good, clean honest citizens. Just remember
nobodys perfect and every family has problems. And I would
venture every person has at least one problem. Now, all
you got to do is make a test to find that problem and
nobody would be racing.

Do I think drinking, drugs, smoking and bad women are a problem
in the sport. Nope, but you could have a few guards that do
random sampling and police the premises just for insurance.

And everybody and every organization has a few checks and
balances to keep everything on a level playing field.:greenflag:

To that sir, I say tough ****. You shouldn't be on drugs in the first place, no matter what the instance. And in every drug test I've ever taken for a job, they ask you if you're on any meds, and if you say yes from what I've been told by the nurses, is you have to bring in a doctors letter stating that you take it. So if you say no, and you fail, tough stuff, you dont get the job.

So what you are suggesting is that if you take a prescription narcotic with a prescription you should be able to drive, if you take one without the prescription then you shouldn't be able to drive. I am thinking that if you are taking one of these meds listed with or without a script you should not be able to drive. There are several meds on the list that do not require a script, and several on the list are not listed as their common brand name. Some cold medicines, sleep aids, anxiety medications.

No texting while racing

Will it be similar to DOT compliance/ Slit sample or a dip strip. There is a difference.
