Who was the last 500 winner to race in USAC AFTER he won the 500? I don't know the answer to this. Counting on one of ya'll to come up with the correct answer.

I would have to believe it is Foyt.

I "googled" that AJ Foyt entered the last USAC Midget race in Texas, a 100-lapper at the Astrodome in 1972.

Gary Bettenhausen won it.

Rutherford won the '80 500 and then ran the USAC none points event in the RCA dome in 1986. I believe that would make him the last winner to run any USAC event after winning the 500.

Was it Al Unser Jr. I remember him running the Hooiser dome in the mid 90's after he had won. but not sure if that was a usac race or not.

I was at that race-and I seem to remember Al Jr. hot-lapping 1 of the Lewis cars, but his Indy car owner at the time (Galles?) wouldn't let him race:thumbsdown:. I believe that was the night Bobby Labonte ran a midget for the 1st time.

The above subject to over-50 brainfade :rolling

O.K., I doubt that this is what you're looking for but just in case it's a trick question, Rick Mears won the '91 500, competed again in '92 when it was still sanctioned by USAC and finished 26th. The 500 continued under USAC sanction thru '95.
