Non-Open Wheel race of the year: Stevensville Mike is spot on with Kalamazoo Klash with Outlaw LM and CRA doubleheader

Nonwing - anything at Kokomo, especially Smackdown. POWRi at practically any Illinois track also a great show.
Non-open wheel - modifieds at Southern New Mexico Speedway. I don't know if it is the track, the drivers, or a combination, but they really rock down there.

Hey Toby Does it count that I went to Salem to watch 2 sprint and midgets guys Chase Briscoe and Chris Bell which I will add they were the show cuz they led the most laps . Late in the race Chase"s car broke and Bell went on to win

Little 500. Bar none.

#1, no doubt, is the Indy 500. Every racecar driver in the world would like to win that race. Nothing else is even close.

#2, the Four Crown. Even though I terribly miss the old 2 day format, it's still the biggest short track event to me.

#3, Indiana Sprint Week at the 'ol home track, Lawrenceburg Speedway. Even qualifying is a spectacle for this race.

Can't say I have a favorite non open wheel event, so in lieu of that, I'll give you the 2 defunct events I miss most:
#1, the original Border Wars- Eldora and Winchester back to back. Only the brave need apply!

#2, the Copper World Classic. Went 3 times with my Dad when it was IndyCars, Silver Crown, and Midgets at PIR during the day; CRA sprinters at Manzanita on 2 nights. Open wheel heaven!

The race that always gets me excited and pumped up each year, but especially this year, is the Indianapolis 500.
The Four Crown Nationals is a pretty close second, and the Ted Horn Memorial at DuQuoin has been a staple on my racing plate since 1965.
Last years Jason Leffler Memorial was the best race of the year. POWRi midgets at Belle-Clair are always a winner.
I don't attend any stand alone dirt late model races, but I believe I did see them run at Haubstadt in conjunction with a sprint car program, and they were OK.
I saw all the Silver Crown races that were run on dirt last year and they put on some great races, even on the miles where there is a potential for them to get strung out into a single file parade. That didn't happen at any of them last season.
I have attended probably a hundred events at Salem, but this year was the first time I had ever seen the ARCA series run there. There were obviously a lot of people there primarily because Chase Briscoe was competing. It definitely wasn't the most exciting event ever, but there was some drama at the end when Chase lost the right rear axle due to loose lug nuts. That was the only fendered car race I have attended recently, other than the Brickyard 400 each year, which I do because I am a creature of habit. Rarely any drama there either, unless a late race caution bunches up the field and you may have two or three laps of intensity.

The three races I look forward to the most each year: SUMAR Classic @ THAT, Josh Burton Memorial @ Bloomington and the Jason Leffler Memorial @ Wayne City. The SUMAR for the history and watching the Silver Crown cars sweep through those wide turns. Josh and Jason's races to honor the men who were taken too soon and their families. Plus the racing is great!
