STANBROUGH WINS RAIN-SHORTENED “ULTIMATE CHALLENGE” AT OSKALOOSA

Oskaloosa, Iowa…….Jon Stanbrough of Avon, Indiana picked up his second AMSOIL National Sprint Car Feature win of the season in Tuesday night’s “Ultimate Challenge” at Southern Iowa Speedway. His Amati Racing team led by car owner Shane Wade and Daryl Tate capitalized on a front-row starting spot to cruise out front for 20 laps before a red flag, which led to an extended rain delay before the race was called.

Stanbrough was rarely challenged, but two-time and defending race winner Kyle Larson poked his nose under Stanbrough, but couldn’t clear the leader. After a couple cautions over the opening laps, the race hit a long green-flag run before C.J. Leary ended up flipping through turn-one while battling for tenth.

Under the red flag, the rain picked up until officials were forced to end the event ten laps short of the originally scheduled 30-lap distance.

Stanbrough picked up $10,000 for the win in the Marion Underground Construction – Shane Wade Enterprises #66 DRC/Dynotech, while teammates Larson and Brady Bacon rounded out the podium in matching Hoffman Auto Racing – Mean Green #69OT and #69 TripleX/Stanton Mopar entries.

Chase Stockon held on for fourth after starting on the front row in the Superior Tank & Trailer – Crescent Electric Supply #32 DRC/Fisher, while Jerry Coons, Jr. charged forward from 11th to finish fifth in the Indiana Underground – Rotondo Weirich #37RW Maxim/Fisher.

After a heat race flip, Robert Ballou rebounded to pick up “Hard Charger” honors for climbing from 19th to finish sixth.

What a wild night. That was some of the most intense racing I've ever seen. I'd have sworn those heats were paying $10 grand each by the way they were driving! From the stands we thought shuerenberg was killed instantly when he hit that barrier head on. Thank god he's ok. The track was perfect, fast but racy and treacherous in turn one. Anyone who skipped this made a HUGE mistake! Larson and Bacons heat was awesome to see both Hoffman cars cross the line side by side. I woke up late this morning still buzzing!

Don't know if anyone was watching or not, but the video of the crash that took it's toll on Tony's right leg, when they were taking the cars out on the wreckers, that track is in a lot of people's back/front yards, how can they stand it, just like me I guess, when I was in DC for my hitch in the Army, my apartment, and my office, were only a stone's throw from the Potomic, and in the early 60's they were still running all piston engine boats, talk about an adrenilin rush, when the President's Cup Regata rolled in, I was at peace, love the sound, and of course, never missed the race! Just sayin, haven't heard anything negative about that community, maybe they feel blessed, like here in Columbus, several years ago, they "removed" the 25th st fairgrounds, and built a shopping mall, now it's for sale, they'd been money ahead to have left it a race track, IMHO! Congrads to Dick Hoffman & crew for a 2 nd & 3 rd. in Iowa. Sounded like you almost had it if you could have run those other 10 laps.
