Brent,
Remember before computers when you went to the track and enjoyed the races no matter who showed up to run? Now everyone wants to know ahead of time before they leave the comfort of home and the computer chair.

Honestly I would be going this weekend regardless! I would just like to know who I should expect to see and I know many other people also like to know in advance just so they have some sort of an idea who they will get to see race.

Glad to hear that you are going to the races this weekend regardless. My beef is with the folks who talk about being true racefans but seldom go to the races for one reason or another. If driver X isn't there, I'm not going. If that is the case, then you aren't a true race fan but a fan of driver X. I don't cheer for a particular driver, I LIKE THEM ALL! ![]() IMO, short track racing is the best entertainment dollar going today. If you want to see it continue to happen, plant your butt in the bleachers. If not, stay home and wait for another short track to shutter the gates.

Its always been this way to some extent. I know two people who used to live along Rt. 50 in Indiana. They sat on the porch from about 3-4 oclock and if the Dizz Wilson Cars went west. They headed for the Burg. If not, They stayed home.
I gotta admit. I have avoided some races just for fear of a low count. Mainly Midget shows that nobody seems to want to run. Would you have been happy to show up at a USAC National and seen 12 cars? Im sure the tracks and Fans weren't last year... Hence no National Pavement this year. I pick and choose. Knowing a lot are going to be somewhere is defianately a motivation to make a extra effort to get to a certain track over not knowing anything. And I often go to the local knowing the count could be low or lower due to other things. But usually see a great show anyhow and if it wasn't so great, The other classes I am familiar with ![]() Chuck, Race fan but Sometimes it isn't either the Track, Owners or sanctions fault when 7 tracks run the same night within a hundred fifty miles of Indy and one or two have low counts.

I've never been one to get caught up in the whole car count obsession. I think we've all seen shows with 40-50 cars that were sub-par, as well as shows with barely 20 cars that were barnburners.
Obviously, we all want a certain count so the promoters will continue to make enough money to put on the shows, but to fuss over whether a show is worth seeing just because there might "only" be a certain number of entries is short-sighted at best. How about just be thankfull that we have our health, and have the right to go see sprint car racing on a Summer evening? |
