Attended this event one day after celebrating my 29th birthday. I chose to bring this one back for reasons which will become obvious a bit later. Old timers here will agree that this was a high quality field of cars and drivers.

+Again, I didn't get the complete 24 car rundown. Scoring takes a special talent and Sandy Lowe (

she's the best) I'm not. Plus, I probably had lots of Burger Beer sloshing around inside.
+Memory fade here on the Jim Smith in this race. Not sure if this is the same driver who left the park at Dayton in '69, retired, but came back only to be fatally injured at Eldora. Anyone??
+Bobby Christian, as most here know, is the father of Kent Christian. At least I think that is true. Again, memory sometimes plays tricks on old dudes like Danny and I.

+I'm told that the late, great Chuck Amati was a big fan of Dolly Parton

....and weren't we all?

+Don't recall many details of this 100 lapper except that a bunch of favorites dropped out early but I think Mr. Kinser had them all pretty well covered all night anyway.
+And now for the reason I found this 'Burg racing night
special (I reserve the right to make that designation

):
In stock car action, a young charger, and now good friend, John Mugavin (know here as WallbangerII) qualified quickest, was 2nd to Pat Patrick in the fast car dash, and came from the tail (23rd) to
WIN the 100 lap feature over Chick Hale, Dale Richardson, Calvin Dean, Ed Henry, Vern LeFevre, and 16 others.
One more 'Burg race from the past to follow. Then it's back to USAC oldies.
