No doubt, it's impressive that Jimmie Johnson has won five Cup championships in a row. But,......if he's gonna tie The King, Steve Kinser, he's got 15 to go. If he would continue to win EVERY championship from now until then, he'd have it all wrapped up in 2025.

JMO but I think the King and his record will remain in tact. Jimmie Johnson certainly won't break it.

Apples to oranges comparison IMO. But I can tell you that Kinser gets more respect from me than Jimmie does.

I agree Seadog it's apples and oranges. Winning five consecutive NASCAR championships would seem like a walk in the park compared to the battle you would face attempting to win five consecutive WoO championships.

Walkin the the park..? Have one bad race in the chase and your pretty much toast in a 10 race series!! Pretty amazing what the 48 team has accomplished these past 5 years. 50 solid races!

Maybe my memory has failed me but I don't remember all 50 of Johnson's races being solid. IMO until Nascar does away with locking the top 35 in and the chase it is just a staged show. An in case you haven't figured it out I don't think Jimmy Johnson is the greatest driver ever, he just has a crew chief who knows how to cheat better than the rest of them and keeps getting caught to a mimimum.

Unfortunely this year it was Hamlin's championship to lose and they gave it away the last two races of the year.

50 races solid or not... they were better than anyone else who made the chase them 5 years. Hamlin did have a shot at it. But he shot himself in the foot at homestead early! Never said he was the greatest driver. But him and Knaus work well as a team! Well that's nascar's fault if they cheat and get away with it.? Dock points and suspend crew chief Like the 33? Then it won't happen again...

Uh, one race can most definitely break you in either series.

I guess I'm thinking in terms of the driver himself and what he has had to do to accomplish winning multiple championships. My experience in running a sprint car is that it is damned hard on a guy. The constant work, work, more work, travel, research, management, etc. is just plain punishing. And, I'm sure the engineers, PR personnel, managers, and staff at Hendricks have it tough too, and with all the interviews that Jimmie must endure along with all of the commercial shoots, photo ops, personal appearances, etc. he's probably a pretty tuckered out little guy at the end of the day. Meanwhile, Steve Kinser has for thirty-two years been dripping in sweat and blood (never a tear), to squeeze a fraction of a second out of himself, his crew, and his equipment to win the championship TWENTY times. Again, no other NASCAR driver has accomplished what Mr. Johnson has, so yes, it is significant. I just wanted to put it into perspective (mine). It's "nice".

You bring up an interesting point about Steve. I forgot about that. It's amazing how easy it is to forget about our hero's. I guess my mind has been on Sammy, Haud or maybe some guys like Bobby Labonte or Bill Elliot or who knows Kenny Schraeder. The old guys might make a come back next year. Old guys can still do well in Nascar if given a chance. They haven't been.
On the West Coast guys like BK are still doing well and hold their own and BK isn't that young any more, but I'm sure he will do well next year..lol! I don't know how many over 55 year old guys are doing well in the EAST or Midwest. Maybe somebody can comment?

But as far as Jimmie goes he is still a young man. I would not bet against him winning 7 or 8 championships. Someone commented he could win 8 in a row. Nobody appears to be able to do that right now?

Who is the last guy in any series that have 5 in a row, USAC, midwest or any series? I guess what I'm trying to say life is about teamwork, be it your wife, school, or even the Unites States Governement and those who know how to get along and work together will be the eventual winners. Money, talent and skill play second fiddle to teams.

The lesson to be learned in life you win as a team and you loose when you put yourself second to the overall major goal.

Or keeping it in the NASCAR family, he's got a ways to go to match Richie Evans. The "Rapid Roman" has 9 NASCAR Modified championships and 8 of those in a row. Take away the chase format and JJ would only have two championships.
