group qualifying sucks big time.no one likes it so why are they shoving it down our throats? you can't keep track of who's doing what and sometimes i still don't know who's in which cars. i also question how much time it really saves. not worth it if you ask me. usac needs to have track enterprises prepare the miles like they've done terre haute lately. that would allow more exciting, fan pleasing racing and put people back in the stands. modifieds dont put on much of a race on the miles so get rid of them. i think better track prep and cushion maintenance would help the series more than any one other thing!

I thought that if the caution came out in the middle of the group run that they went back to the last completed qualified lap where all cars registered a time and then resumed qualifications from that point.
Example: Six cars are on the track when the caution comes out (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6). Car 5 spins and brings out the caution. At this point cars 1, 2, 3 and 4 have completed two qualification laps while cars 5 and 6 have only completed one lap. The second qualification lap is deleted from cars 1, 2, 3 and 4. Car 5 is pushed off and qualifications resume with all cars having three laps remaining.

Just a point of clarification. The track prep they have done lately at Terre Haute has been by Reece O'Connor and his crew from the Kokomo Speedway. They are partnering with Bob Sargent at Track Enterprises for the rest of this season. Hopefully they can continue on at THAT for 2011 and beyond.

I'm not certain, but I've been under the impression that group qualifying was introduced to speed up the show because many people were complaining about single car qualifying taking too long. Seemed like some folks were complaining about not being able to leave the track by 10:30 PM when they attended a USAC show like they could when attending any number of weekly shows that have no qualifying at all and use the pill draw as a starting order. Don't get me wrong......I'm not pointing fingers, I'm just saying that I thought Kevin Miller introduced the group qualifying thing in response to complaints that he had read on this very board. There might be a time and place for group qual but not at every track. It does put more hot fast laps on the track because they get 4 green flag laps. 30 car field X 2 hot laps = 60. Running the group for 30=120 hot laps for qual. Some track can take it others can't. I don't really like it but be selective on useing this foremat.
I would hate to be a promotor/track owner in Indiana...
1. Group qualifying..dries out the track...
2. Single car qualifying..can't be home by 9 O'clock....
3. Pill draw...Can't to much luck..
4. Want higher paying races...fans won't pay higher admission...
5. Want higher paying races...driver's don't support it...
6. Start later to save track...Can't won't be home by 9.....
7. Redo track after heats .....can't won't be home by 9....
8. They do work on track after heats....got home at 10.....
bitchbitchbitch..Can't some of you guys go to the track and just enjoy yourself for once....
OOO yea, I prefer single car Qualifying..its easier to tell when there over...from the parking lot..
Just a little FYI - It appears as though there will be single-car qualifying and a normal 100-lap race format for the Sumar Classic at Terre Haute next weekend. If you enjoy these two details, make sure you show up to support a race. Nothing worse than sending the wrong message about what you want to see as a spectator. I'm really looking forward to seeing guys take to the track solo and then battle it out for 100 laps without any undue stoppage...

All I know is we counted one night(might have been sprintweek at Bloomington) one group had 3 yellows and each time they started over, the last time they finally got 4 in a row without another yellow. Thats where I got it from.
