I recall dad and others calling it the "Hill", because that's where you sat, on a hill by the track.

A few years ago at a Columbus Racers' Reunion, someone had old footage of cars racing out there. Talk about dust!

I was only 7 when it closed, much younger than a few here......

I recall names like Ted Pfeiffer, Freddy Wilbur, Bobby Baker. Geez, am I that old?:2:

I always like the SOD fall nationals at Avilla. The Michigan guys would come down there and the Indy guys would drive up. No hype just good hard racing. About once a month as a kid we would drive down to Warsaw. As a kid it was a cool place--lake in the background. Park in your car on the back side- right up to the track. I have not been to Williams Grove in a long time. I was shocked to see all the new-high dollar homes so close to it. Never a good thing. Plus down the street was a little motel that had small golf course. That is gone. I'm starting to sound like an old guy.

Here's one no one has mentioned. Terre Haute's "Fast Track" at 25th & Ft Harrison. I remember being there many times when I was small. Probably around '46or'47 to the early '50s. My Dad had a home-built midget he took there. A paved track then with drivers such as Jackie Holmes, Potsy Goacher, and Leroy Warriner. Started out with basic stuff like Ford flathead 60's and variations of "outboard" motors. Then came the 110 Offies and the good times were over. Before it closed and became an industrial area, they ran a lot of junker stocks. I'm not sure when they closed for good. Shortbus might know.
