Just got an email from Jonathan Vennard. He said he will be driving the Trucker's 24 hr. Road Service #12 this coming weekend at Bloomington, Danville, and Kokomo.
It will be good to see Jonathan back racing the dirt again. Good luck and have fun! |

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that more people need to do something like Jeff Kohler is doing or nonwing sprint car racing (and wing for that matter) will continue to see smaller and smaller fields at most races. I just wish I was smart enough to come up with a brilliant plan. One thing I remember from the late 1960s at the Sun Bowl (I think that was its name) in El Paso, Texas was that a collection was taken up from the grandstand crowd any time someone crashed. While the amount was probably rather small, especially if there were several crashes that night, I am sure that it helped. While the racing community has pitched in when someone gets hurt, I don't remember seeing anything like a "crash fund" for a long time.
We all have one or more favorite drivers. If promoters would figure out how to let a group of fans prepay a driver's pit pass for a race, a few races, or a year, I think that would help. I am sure that there are any number of affordable things which a group could do which would help. I hope that some of us on this board can come up with ways to help support teams and drivers that is affordable to the average fan. Frank Daigh

Is this REALLY shocking to anyone? Wasn't the eastern swing Stabb's doing? Maybe USAC is killing it off politically but not offering support/tow money.......

Factually, the purses are actually stronger on the Eastern Swing this year than before. They have also tried to secure more tow money while exploring options to fill the Friday gap, which has been there each year. The Eastern Swing is great for USAC and its teams. The crowds are good, the tracks are willing to pay decent money, and there are good tracks there to hit....I personally am not a big fan of Big Diamond and would really like to see something on Friday, so hopefully they can keep working on it and make the trip even better. |

This might be the stupidest thing I've read in quite some time. It amazes me how some of these self proclaimed "experts" know so little.
