The United States Speed Association UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series will make it first visit to Columbus Motor Speedway this Saturday. Columbus native and 2015 Simpson World Indy Rookie of the Year Trey Osborne will be featured in a field of 17 midgets as a part of the south side of Columbus track’s 71st anniversary. The 30 lap feature race will mark the return of pavement midget racing to Ohio and CMS.

Osborne closed out the 2015 UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series campaign sixth in championship points along with earning the Simpson World Indy Rookie of the Year award. 2015 was the transition year for Osborne from quarter-midget racing to the full size cars competing in the USSA Midget series.

Saturday night’s race at Columbus Motor Speedway will mark many of the drivers competing first change to race on the celebrated 1/3 mile Columbus Motor Speedway. While the field will all be “rookies” at CMS, experience is sure to play a part in Saturday’s event.

Dameron Taylor heads the ten veteran drivers returning from 2015. Taylor finished 2nd in ’15 championship points and fought a 30 lap duel with Kyle Hamilton, ultimately finishing a close second at Anderson Speedway April 16. Hamilton’s brother Nick shadowed the first and second place drivers to claim third in the season opener.

The UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series is noted for its close racing. The series set a margin of victory feature race record in 2015 with a scant 0.004 second MOV at Anderson Speedway.

The gates open at 5, followed by time trials at 6 and racing at 7. The UAW American Made Mel Kenyon Midget Series will be joined by the Whelen All American Late Models, Columbus Modifieds, Sport Stock and Crazy Compact classes. Columbus Motor Speedway ticket prices for Saturday April 23 are adults $12, kids 4 to 11 $4 and kids under 4 are free.
