Need a tach for my Lightning Sprint. All I need/want is a high rpm function. I already have mechanical gauges for everything else.

I'm aware of the Acewell units but they have a lot of functions I don't need.

Is a Longacre 44402 a good choice and compatible with the ignition on an 08 R1?

We used a Mychron 4 on ours, if you put out the beacon then it will read high and low every lap.

I agree, I've still got my Mychron 4 from when I had my kart, I love the lap timer on them. As Dirt said, it'll record high/low RPM per lap, give you the RPM drop per lap, active display of best lap time(if there is a timing beacon on the track), you can run a coolant temp or head temp sensor. It's a gauge, and a data logger all rolled into one.

I use Quick Car Racing Products 611-7010, 2 5/8” gauge with shift light. I set the shift light to 300 RPM below my rev limiter, which gives me a visual indication of when I'm getting close. I never look at the gauge on the track, only check the memory for the highest reading before I shut the car off. (Don't forget to clear it before you go out again...) With the R1 you'll need to use a 2.2k ohm resistor between the signal wire and the positive feed.

Tel tac..... You can pick them up for $150 used (I've sold 2 for that price) and are extremely high quality pieces.
