"Midwest TQ Racing League"

Aaron Percell won his first MTQRL feature on Friday night when the Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Jenmarco.com raced at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind.

Percell, the 2013 Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Year, needed just 27 feature starts to find victory lane in a series that has been dominated by veteran drivers such as Tate Martz, Nick Speidel and Ronnie Combs.

The 19-year old from Rushville, Ind., driving his grandfather Danny’s #48 Beast/Kawasaki sponsored by McGowan Photography, Mexcal Mexican Restaurant Bar & Grill, Gentle Dentist and Percell Trucking, took the lead on the fifth lap of the feature and pulled away to an impressive and uncontested feature win.

Morristown’s Brayton Leisure led the first four laps and his runner-up finish was the best of his career. Steve Arnold of Seymour completed the podium and equaled his best career finish. Rookie Callie Wolsiffer of New Palestine and veteran Rick Robinson of Columbus completed the top five.

Rounding out the top ten were Greensburg’s Ronnie Combs, defending MTQRL Champion Cody Kiewitt of Seymour, Milroy’s Jon Steed, Franklin’s Kevin Blue, and four-time MTQRL champion Tate Martz of Rushville.

Martz was the night’s fast qualifier, turning a lap of 17.353 seconds around the quarter mile dirt oval. Combs won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel, and qualifying race wins went to Blue and Arnold. Perfect North Slopes heat winners were Leisure and Arnold.

Combs advanced five positions in the feature and earned the Steed Motorsports Hard Charger Award and his teammate Wolsiffer was the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race.

Martz was the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver after a four-car pileup on lap twenty eliminated him from the feature.

Combs continues to lead the season standings over Wolsiffer with Percell now third ahead of Robinson and Martz.

The MTQRL will be off next weekend with its season resuming on Saturday August 8th at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind. That night the MTQRL will be celebrating its 100th race. Several giveaways are planned for the fans including the first 100 paid general admission will receive a commemorative yearbook from the MTQRL’s inaugural 2009 season.
