Kyle O’Gara is on a hot streak in the early 2015 Mel Kenyon Midget Series going. Following his win at Anderson Speedway on April 11, he backed it up with another top spot in his Indy Trading Post Kenyon Midget Saturday night at the Lincoln Tech Indianapolis Speedrome.
The line-up inversion relegated second fast qualifier O’Gara to the inside of the third row for the start of the 50-lap feature. Fast qualifier and new track record holder Dameron Taylor would start the feature next to O’Gara on the outside of the third row. At the drop of the green pole sitter Nate Foster jumped to the point to lead the first lap. 2011 Mel Kenyon Midget Series Champion Jessica Bean nosed under Foster entering turn three on lap two to take over the top spot. O’Gara moved to second while Taylor took several laps to move around Clayton Gaines. From lap 4 O’Gara stalked Bean, showing her a wheel at both ends of the track just about every lap. When the leaders caught the back of the field, O’Gara found a hole in the traffic and passed Bean to take the lead on lap 40. Lapped tars on the tight Speedrome track gave O’Gara some breathing room allowing him to open a cushion on Bean. O’Gara would lead the last 10 laps, with Bean, Taylor, Gaines and Logan Huggler filled the top five. Dameron Taylor set a new lap record in qualifying, eclipsing the old mark by .006 of a second. Clayton Gaines grabbed his fist USSA win in the first 10 lap heat race while O’Gara set the pace in the second heat. |
