I just finished reading and viewing the clip of NSSN's interview with Tony Stewart concerning his views on sprint cars. It is interesting and disappointing that he seldom recognizes or mentions non-wing sprint car people, venues, competitors, etc. We all understand the place for Kinser, Swindell, Wolfgang et al in the pantheon of sprint car history. It would be nice for Stewart, who has, like it or not become the most visible spokesperson for sprint car racing to at least acknowledge our preferred brand. If one was a novice to our sport and saw or read this interview one might be led to believe the only type of sprint car racing is that portion which has a wing. To Stewart's credit he did point out that many people who describe his running sprint cars as lower division racing don't know what they are talking about; but it would have been nice to hear names like Clauson, Stanbrough, Darland, Indiana Sprint Week, mentioned in the same way. This is not a knock on winged racing, but I for one have concerns that the marketing gurus of the WoO are being unintentionally aided by people who could do much good for the entire spectrum of sprint car racing with a few simple words of recognition.

Coming from someone who grew up watching NASCAR, moved to Indycar, and now prefers non wing sprint cars over anything, there are far too many race fans missing out. Don't get me wrong, wings are fun, but not as fun as non wing.

The best spokesperson who has the ability to get the word out through mass media right now is Kyle Larson. I remember watching him after a race last year during his Nationwide campaign at Michigan on ESPN or whatever and he was saying how he was excited to go run Indiana Midget Week at Kokomo on Sunday night with all his non-wing friends. He's always tweeting about non-wing stuff and he gets a word in when he can concerning tracks, drivers, etc. I think many of us can agree through speaking to him at the tracks all over the state through the years he's very humble as to where he came from and I think that still shows.

There are a lot of other guys who still speak highly of their non-wing roots like J.J. Yeley and Josh Wise but they obviously aren't getting the type of TV time that guys like Larson or Stewart get.

Smoke checks out the board from time to time. I don't understand why he don't run a wing and NW show on the night before the truck race. Have the Lates as he does now with the Trucks.

Would open fans eyes to a whole new ballgame.

What you say Nate is very true. Kyle Larson is one of a kind. Most of the drivers like Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Ken Schrader, Ryan Newman, Kasey Kahne and other open wheel drivers spent quite a bit of time in front of us before moving on to NASCAR. Kyle was different and went there so fast I feel cheated and believe we didn't even come close to seeing his full potential in open wheel. Even though his short time here was unbelievably magnificent. I wanted more!

He's certainly one of a kind, as much as I loved watching him race I don't feel cheated but I know what you mean. The kid can wheel a car and what he's done in the 42 this year is nothing short of special for a kid his age first year in a Cup ride and it clearly shows why he climbed to the top in such a short time. I have no problem saying he is the best "pure" driver I have ever seen. Put him in ANYTHING and he can drive it, he's won in everything he's gotten in so far and he'll get more than his fair share in a Cup ride and I'm certain he will be a champion one day. But all that aside as I said, so far he hasn't lost sight of where he came from and he's very appreciative for that aspect of his career. Talked to him this year at Kokomo during midget week and you could just tell he wanted to be out there more than anything.

I've seen a few interviews where Kyle talks about winged Sprint cars being his favorite.

Tony is only speaking the truth! The WoO and central PA have the toughest competition in the world for Sprint Cars. Winged cars are the most fun to drive too! Just a lot more expensive to maintain.
