Must See Racing Xtreme Series Event at Salem Speedway Postponed to October

Track Report

SALEM, Ind. (August 4, 2014) – The 55th annual Scott County Visitors Commission Joe James/Pat O’Connor Memorial sprint classic, originally scheduled for Saturday night at Salem (IN) Speedway Fueled by the Hoosier Lottery, has been postponed until Saturday, October 4 reports track officials.

Concerns regarding new pavement, which was recently put down on the half-mile oval from the entrance of turn three to the exit of turn four, led to the decision to postpone the historic sprint race until later in the season.

“After consulting with officials from the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series and the paving contractors we have decided to postpone the race and give the new asphalt additional time to cure,” said Salem track owner Owen Thompson. “We want to insure a great show for our fans and a safe racetrack for the competitors, so we feel it is in the best interest of everyone involved to reschedule this event.”

No other events scheduled for Salem in 2014 are affected by the postponement.

The major repaving project, the first at Salem since 1977, was scheduled to begin in early July, but delays pushed the starting date back to late last week. The paving is scheduled to be completed today (Monday), but the hot temperatures are adding to the time needed for the asphalt to cure.
