STARS Season Opener
The 2014 Short Track Auto Racing Series (STARS) brought to you by D’Arcy GMC, Bell Helmets, and Three Wide Life Promotions will be getting underway this Saturday night under the bright lights at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, IL.
This season will feature a new National Midget Driver Champion as three-time champion Jim Anderson scales back his schedule to devote time with his son Jimmy in the quarter midget ranks. Among the early favorites to replace Anderson are four time feature winner in 2013, Austin Prock. Local favorites include Billy Hulbert, and Brad Greenup of Channahon; Tyler Trainor of Streator, Ryan Probst of New Lenox and 2013 Rookie of the Year Nick Baran of Plainfield. Kyle O’Gara of Indianapolis will be piloting the Guess Racing entry formally piloted by Anderson.
Two time Classic Modified champion Erica Ensor will move up to the Illini Racing Series (IRS) midgets and will appear on the Saturday night program this year on at least six occasions. The competition to replace Ensor as champion of the Classic Modified Division include Tom Schnabel, 2013 Rookie of the Year Logan Weigle and Greg and Tom Wills.
Brian Tedeschi will be back to defend his title as the Legend Division Champion and hopes to make it as easy as he did in 2013 as he won the title by the largest margin of any of the division over the competition. Other hopefuls with the object of unseating Tedeschi include Matt O’Leary, Johnny Kringas, Drew Higginson and Cullen Camasta.
With the slimmest of margins by one point in 2013, Mike Harrold will be tested to repeat his title run in the Minicup Division by Jayden Cave, Jaden Fryer and Brody Hayes as well as Dallas Frueh.
The Gates open at 5PM with the first race scheduled to start at 6:30PM. Adult ticket prices are $12, children 6 through 12 are $2, kids 5 and under are free.
