Hello Fans, Competitors, and Friends. The Silver Crown series opener is around the corner on April 6th (practice begins 4pm), and I hope to see you there. Having been at the helm for 3 months now, I am very eager to get the season started. There are 22 confirmed entries at the moment for the Action Track, and the possibility of a couple more, as teams are working hard assembling cars and engines. The past 3 months have consisted of reviewing rules, previous experiences of series, and talking with competitors both past and present. As we start to move forward, I would like to hear from some of our fans about ideas, big and small regarding the Silver Crown series. Send your thoughts to usacsilvercrownfans@hotmail.com , please keep comments constructive and please note I am aware of costs (both teams and fans), travel, tires, etc., and USAC is working on these items to help fans and teams. Also, keep checking the USAC website, as we will bring new and exciting info before Terre Haute. I will be providing an update in May about our upcoming pavement shows as I get to know more of our teams on a first name basis. Jumping ahead, Hoosier Hundred, May 22. This event will rekindle your hopes for a superb series, with a large field of competitive cars and drivers that have not competed for a few seasons, as well as USACs finest today. See you at the track! Indiana Andy

I have to say I love that Andy is willing to be on here providing updates, asking for car owner contact info, etc etc. Other than having a hundred lapper in a hundred incher on my bucket list I have zero involvement with the SC series, but it does make me warm and fuzzy to see somebody attempt to bring the series back to the premier series it used to be.

Andy,
Do you anticipate a full 30 car starting field at the Hoosier 100? What do you think about bringing the Hulman 100 back in May and having the Hoosier 100 in August or September again?

I hope to run a few Champ Car races myself, but regardless, I am a fan too!

Thanks,

J.T. Stapp

USAC Press Release

Dick Jordan

"FULL FIELD" GEARING UP FOR "SUMAR CLASSIC;"

BAKERS DOZEN EYE HISTORIC SILVER CROWN #100

More than a dozen drivers are scheduled to seek their initial USAC Silver Crown Championship victory April 6 when the "Sumar Classic" unfolds at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track. If one can find victory lane they will become the series' 100th different race winner in its 44 years! Pre-entries already suggest a "full field" for the 100-lap race.

Former Silver Crown winners Bobby East, A.J. Fike, Tracy Hines, Chris Windom, Dave Darland, Aaron Pierce, Kody Swanson and Jerry Coons Jr. are among entered drivers at Terre Haute. East is the defending series champion and Windom became the 99th different series winner at last year's "4-Crown Nationals" in Ohio. Pierce holds the ultimate series race record of 159.211 mph, established at Homestead, Fla. in 2006.

Competing for the title of 100th race winner will be drivers from Indiana, Illinois, Oklahoma, Michigan and Florida.

Christopher Bell of Norman, Okla. won last year's Honda USAC National Midget Dirt title and finished eighth in his Silver Crown debut at DuQuoin in 2013. Taylor Ferns of Shelby Township, Mich. is the winningest female driver in USAC history and won the 2011 USAC D1 Midget crown. Ferns was 4th at Rossburg, Ohio and 5th at DuQuoin in 2013.

Joe Liguori of Tampa, Fla., grandson of long-time USAC driver Ralph Liguori, won USAC's 2009 Midwest and USAC/UMARA Ford Focus titles and finished seventh in last year's "4-Crown" Silver Crown finale.

Jarett Andretti, son of John Andretti, competed in five events last year and notched an eighth-place at Pikes Peak International Raceway.

Caleb Armstrong of New Castle, Ind., winner of USAC's 2011 "Turkey Night Grand Prix" Midget spectacular, is slated for his initial Silver Crown start at Terre Haute, along with Jake Simmons of Terre Haute, Dakota Jackson of Elizabethtown, Ind., John Hunt of Tulsa, Okla. and Grant Simpson of Avoca, Ill.
Jacob Wilson of Crawfordsville, Ind. is a former "Joe James-Pat O'Connor" Sprint Car winner and has previous series experience, as do Illinois drivers Randy Bateman of Murphysboro and Shane Cockrum of Benton. Cockrum strung together "top-5" finishes in the final three Silver Crown races of last year.

Illinois driver Patrick Lawson of Edwardsville posted a 10th at Rossburg, Ohio last year in his third series start.

J.T., I do anticipate over 30 cars at this years Hoosier Hundred, and as far as having the September race in addition to the May event, I am in favor of, and have had preliminary discussions about this. Right now, we have to keep the eyes on the task at hand first; more cars, more fans, and more value. When this is accomplished, look for your two events at ISF. Next, get your driver suit out, we can use you now, hurry up See you at Terre Haute, and thank you all for the kind words, Indiana Andy

I have my driving suits and gear ready and a Sprint Car ride for 2014 for sure, still working on a Champ Car ride.
Will you run a 15 Lap Qualifying Race and lock in the Top 20 Qualifiers if we have over 30 cars on the Mile races?

Thanks for all your hard work, Andy!

Many people are quick to jump on threads and pile on when there are problems...those threads get pages and pages of responses. This thread deserves a lot props for the hard work that Andy and others are doing to fix something that has needed attention for a LONG time. I'm really happy to see it and I hope people will support that hard work, I know I will. I'm convinced Andy is the right person to lead this series, I think he's showing that already.

Not a post about Indiana Andy or USAC, but a post about THAT and being as economical as possible. THAT and the O'Connor family have once again offered all HARF members a $5.00 discount on EVERY race at THAT in the 2014 race season, just show your current membership card at the ticket booth for your discount. The simple math is...cost of a HARF membership is $15.00, discounts at just THAT $30.00, not to mention the other 20 some discounted (or free) nights this year. Help youself save some money, join HARF.
