Can't vouch for the big track or tickets, but we go down every year before Speed Weeks start to go to the DirtCar Nationals.
Anywhere in Deland is good. It is about 20 miles West of DIS. There is a big Clarion there on International Speedway Boulevard and if you want to go low ball, the Orange Tree Inn (ask for Evelyn - the owner) closer to town. Deland is a nice place to kick back and relax/eat/drink. It is home to Stetson University. It is a hop, skip, and a jump to Volusia Speedway Park (dirt) and New Smyrna Speedway (asphalt). Both tracks have good cards leading up to the 500, which in my opinion, should be on the undercard for both tracks above.
But that is just me.....
Good luck and have fun any way you go! Racing is still racing!

We stay in St. Augustine the night before. It is a beautiful historic town and only 1hr drive on 95 to get to the track. Next year you wont have the option to sit on the back stretch as they are building new seating on the front and are doing away with the back stretch seating. Who knows what they will do with ticket prices. This is a problem with NASCAR. Way over priced.. Back stretch tickets you can find on stub hub, scalper or craiglist for $100 or less. Front name your price.. We have parked in the free parking on both sided. The back stretch was easier to get in and out of. Again its all going to change this coming year. Not sure how they will handle parking. If you want to stay in Daytona or close by I would say motel room will be in the $300 per night range.. If you can get in to the best western in New Smyrna beach I would recommend it. Great people and great few of the ocean. It is a small beach community that is safe and clean.

You can find good motels cheaper than $300 in Daytona. We stayed on the beach in a nice, clean mom and pop place for $135 in Daytona Shores. To me, if you don't stay on the beach in Florida then why bother.
