86-87-88/40- is one better than the other for non wing?

Currently run a 86/40 Maxim (my first car) and looking at purchasing a new chassis for next year. Can someone tell me the noticeable differences between the different size chassis's? I would assume the longer wheel base make it more stable on the longer tracks ? Thanks!
