The 2013 USAC National Midget season opens at the half-mile paved oval, New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida on February 17th and 18th. RW Motorsports is proud to announce an incredibly talented lineup of drivers making the trip to New Smyrna Beach.
Bobby Santos III will be back behind the wheel of the #17 midget for the 2013 season. Santos earned two Silver Crown wins last year in the “Hall of Fame Classic” and the “J.D. Byrider 100,” aboard the RW Motorsports #17. Santos also led an RW Motorsports 1-2-3 sweep at Iowa Speedway in the RW Motorsports #17.
Bobby’s teammate in midget competition this year, driving the #27 entry, is Kyle O’Gara. O’Gara finished third in 2012’s USAC/D1 Midget Series, having earned feature wins at both Grundy County Speedway and Kalamazoo Speedway in the RW Motorsports #17B.
Kyle Larson will be piloting the #17B midget on Sunday night. Larson earned six USAC Midget victories last year at “Turkey Night Grand Prix,” as well as, Eldora Speedway, Tri-City Speedway, Canyon Speedway Park, Kokomo Speedway, and Dodge City Raceway Park.
Teammate Ross Rankine will take over racing duties in the #17B midget on Monday night. Rankine captured the 2012 USAC Midwest Pavement and Dirt Ignite Midget titles, having won six times on dirt and three times on pavement. Ross shared his thoughts on Monday night, “I'm just excited to finally get the season started after a long winter. Hopefully we can get a solid finish on Monday.”
Rounding out the lineup, in the #17R entry, is Dave Steele. Steele holds the USAC Silver Crown driving title for both 2004 and 2005. USAC victory lane is familiar territory to Steele, having earned victories 26 times in Sprints, 18 times in Midgets and 16 times in Silver Crown.
#27 midget driver Kyle O’Gara shared his thoughts on the 2013 season, "First of all, I have to thank Steve Weirich and the RW Motorsports family for the great opportunity. I think we have a great chance at contending for a few wins this year. RWMS is a top notch team and I have a lot of faith in them. Also, I need to thank Andy, Sarah, and all of the SFHR Development team for backing me the past few years. Without them, none of this would be possible. As for New Smyrna, I believe that RWMS has a great chance to take the win. I am looking forward to working with Santos and Rankine again, along with the new addition of Dave Steele and Kyle Larson. Here's to a successful 2013 season!”
