Did I miss something here, but I was just looking at the website last week, to see if any 2013 races had been scheduled, and saw this line, "Brownstown Banquet cancelled due to a lack of interest"! Is this a missprint, or fact, and is it tied to the economy, or truly a "lack of interest"? I would have to agree, why have one, if no one wants one, why rent the hall, and spend whatever it takes for whatelse goes with it, if no one is interested. Just curious! Bob

Believe me from someone who tries to arrange banquets...it's a bear to do! The advance notice, finding a caterer, renting a hall big enough to do this, printing tickets, buying the awards, door prizes, POSTAGE! and so many more loose ends. AND after all is arranged and staged...1/2 of your award winners don't show up. I know it takes time out of peoples lives, it takes an effort to get to a banquet location, it costs for gas, but banquets are intended to honor the drivers and teams for a great year of racing. Drivers and teams have lives too, but most award banquets last a few hours, we feed you, give you a nice award and shower you with applause, it is truly the fans chance to give back to YOU! I totally understand Brownstown's position in this (along with so many of our local tracks who no longer have banquets, most just do on track awards the final night of racing) and am so sorry to see the demise of award banquets, even at our awards banquet last year we were about 2/3rd's capacity. To OUR drivers, we so much appreciate you giving of your time to attend and receive your award for a great year of racing, we just hope you understand that these events are our only way to give back to YOU! Please remember, we are YOUR fans.
...and speaking of Banquets...the 61st Annual Hoosier Auto Racing Fans Banquet will be held on January, 27th, 2013 (the day following the Indy Circle Track Swap Meet, make a fun weekend of it in Indy. Merry Christmas to all, bob.
