A reunion of the Springfield Speedway will be held this Sat Oct 27 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds, indoors at the Illinois Building. The event will begin at NOON on Saturday with a memorabilia show, photo displays, and a chance to visit with some of the older drivers who participated at Springfield Speedway, and several cars will be on display that once competed at the track. A $5.00 donation is asked to help offset the costs of the building rental etc.
Springfield Speedway opened as a midget track in 1947, and closed at the conclusion of the 1987 season with sprints and late models.
Some of the drivers rumored to be attending include Donny Beechler, Ken Schrader, Bubby Jones, Gene Henson, Frank Hollingsworth, Dean Shirley, Ron Milton, Al Thomas and Kevin Olson.
For more info, and pictures check out the Springfield Speedway Reunion Facebook page.

We're getting ready to head out the door and down good ol' Interstate 55 towards Springfield right now.
Looking forward to seein' some of the machines and the guys who drove and worked on 'em that made Lil' Springfield the legendary racetrack it was.
Silver Crown Championship Dirt Cars properly driven on a one mile dirt track are classic poetry in motion. Using that analogy, Jack Hewitt is one of the greatest poets of all time.
