You didn't read the thread correctly, apparently. They were upset about him not being able to race non wing sprint cars. Which he still didn't get to do this weekend. Nor will he get to do Friday at Terre Haute. And I'm still bummed about that. I understand why, though. And after that crash at Eldora, I would probably do the same thing with a driver I had invested a lot in, just as Chip has done.

Yeah an accident like the one at Eldora could never happen in a winged car...I understand Chip's rationale. (sarcasm). If I were a wing racer I would be quite offended by what Chip's move is implying.

There's nothing for them to be offended about. It's just a matter of physics. Winged cars have a lot more downforce on their car, due to the wing. And it's just a fact the non-winged cars take flight a lot more often than do winged ones. And when they do, it's usually in a bigger way. Kyle's wreck at Eldora could have just as well happened in a winged car, but there's a lot bigger chance of getting hurt in a car without a wing on it. So I think Chip and other car owners are just playing the law of averages when make their driver stick to winged racing. Look how many more times you've seen Tony or Kasey in winged races in recent years, than our brand of racing.

I understand Chip's issue, BUT, I think it is very short sighted. Think about it for just one minute. Hire Kyle to drive your NASCAR stuff AND allow him, as time permits, to run all of the open wheel stuff he can....
Chip and NASCAR would double the fan base overnight bringing in a lot of fans to watch Kyle race AND Chip would possibly lose a whole lot more hatters !!
Sometimes, I question wether Chip is really a savy business man.... JMO
Since EGR has been irrelevant in Sprint Cup racing for the last year or two, developing a talent like Kyle Larson has to be a pretty important effort. I hope there is quality equipment available when he gets there.....

I get your sentiment and hate that Larson will not be racing non-wing sprints. However, your comment about doubling the fan base might be just a tad over the top. If sprint car racing were that popular it would be all over TV and our favorite drivers would be getting paid more and have great sponsorship. I think a guy who went from being a mediocre Indy car driver to owning a successful Indy car operation and a middling NASCAR operation would be considered successful.

the wing cars are safer than non-wing, period. Yes, you can get seriously hurt (or killed) in the winged car but, the odds of it happening in a non-wing car are much higher....
