I know it has been quite some time since I posted anything about Andrew. A number of IOW folks have called me on the carpet so I guess I better get with it. It seems when things went back to "normal", updates are more difficult to write. Thankfully we have gone from numerous medical updates to more of "everyday" growing up type of news. Pretty boring really.

First of all medically he is doing very well. His MRI's have been clear and he is on some limited medicines to hopefully keep it that way. At times it seems so long ago that he was going through this nightmare and yet it really hasn't been all that long. Time and kids offer us so many adventures.

Two weeks ago he "graduated" from kindergarten so he is now officially on his way to first grade. He really likes school and is disappointed when he can't go, as in Sat, Sun, snow days etc. I guess he gets that from his grandpa.

As I have mentioned before, he is really interested in cars. With both his dad and uncle being engineers in the automotive industry, I guess that is to be expected. He is really smart and can tell you what type of car most of them are. He can also tell you a lot about most of them as well. He has developed a keen interest in building just about anything.

Earlier this summer, the local quartermidget club had an open house and they encouraged kids to come out and take a spin. My son and daughter-in-law took him there so they could guage his interest and he really loved the experience. His dad is super excited about this while my daughter-in-law remains a little more reserved. Apparently he did real well during his afternoon of testing. His mother said that they are now looking into taking the plunge and have started looking into purchasing a car so he can begin a racing career. We will see where this leads.

I am amazed at how he has matured during this last 6-8 months. He has gone from a small child to a very inquisitive boy. School has helped him develop his social skills and brought him out of his shell. It seems no one is a stranger anymore and he will talk your ear off. RacinBabe thinks he got that from his grandpa also.

This whole ordeal has taught us to live life for today and spend quality time with the ones you love. Don't sweat the small stuff and only worry about what you can control. None of us can possibly know what tomorrow might bring.

As I said earlier, pretty boring stuff. I thank you all for your continued interest in Andrew. His journey continues and for that we are so very thankful. We appreciate each and every one of you who have been so kind with your thoughts and encouragement through posts on here as well as cards and notes. Also for toys, gifts and monetary contributions that you have sent to a little boy most of you have never even met. And especially for all of your prayers. Race fans are really special and we have been rewarded with your friendship.

Sorry for the marathon post. I guess there was more to tell than I thought. Thanks for your continued interest in Andrew's journey and we continue to Dream, Hope & Believe. Hope to see you at the races.

Thank you, Mike, for the update. It is truly an enjoyable few minutes to read the Update and catch up with the current "goings and doings" of Andrew.
Some IOWers "called you on the carpet" because we feel that we know Andrew and therefore appreciate occasional reports.

Mike,

Like Jerry Spencer said you and Andrew have become a part of our lives. I am so glad to hear Andrew's test remain clear. I hope I get to meet Andrew and his twin brothers on one of my trips thru the mid-west. Maybe on one of those trips Andrew will be running a guartermidget with grandpa hepling out as his crew chief. Until then you all will remain in my thoughts and prayers.

As you know when I first started out on this journey with you, being a grandparent was a new experience for me. Now four years later I can honestly say my grandsons bring great joy to my life and as you said they are changing and growing constantly.

In the fall Andrew will start 1st grade seems like only yesterday he was entering kindergarten, where has the year gone? Don't blink grandpa before we know it Andrew will be headed off to high school and then college.

Tell Kelly I said hi.

What perfect timing for me to be on here and get a report on one of God's little miracles. Of course I am thrilled to hear the everyday stuff because that proves God is faithful and that he has answered the many, many prayers that have been prayed. I so much appreciate you taking time to update us. Please don't wait so long next time. I for one am always glad to hear from you.... Prayers being said always.
