A friend of ours will be running Montpelier (spl) this summer, he ask Josh if we thought the sprint cars would be interested in running a few shows there on Saturday night. I am not sure of when or the payout but will let you know as soon as he puts something together.

I'm just glad to hear something about Montpelier at all. The "promotor" they had was running the place into the ground so maybe somebody new can turn things around. It's always been a late model and stock car track, and that's what most of the fans there like to see. However, many people along with myself who care about the track would be happy to see sprint cars or anything that will make the track successful again.

The MMSA (1000cc) mini sprints have 5 races scheduled there, the first being May 10th and a special event on July 12th, we plan to help the track have a successful season as part of our "Winged Warrior Tour"

I'd like to see the midgets return there again. They put on a great show there a couple of years ago. We need more tracks that will run midgets and that would be a good place.

I agree. I was very impressed the last time I was there when they ran the midgets. It seems to me that it is a great track for midgets and sprints. I hope they can keep the doors open this time. I know that the location of the track hinders it somewhat.

I ran a sprint there for a full season in 1991,and it was not a bad place. It was definitely a stock car track (fans). Craig Dori was looking into it late last year, I think. There was a problem, at that time anyway, with the back stretch wall and a big drop off and no fence. I can't remember the details and am not trying to sound negative. It just needs to be confirmed that it is suitable for sprints. I would think that it would be great to have a track in the northern part of the state to run on sat. night.

Good post. I agree. Montpelier is a true diamond in the rough. A great little track that needs a lot of work and attention by a promoter with the financial ability to do what needs to be done. The grandstands, what there are of them, are in dire need of replacement. The press box moves in a strong wind. While in a tough location the track has the support of most of the community. That is unusual these days. The midget show referred to in this thread is the X2RA event held on May 6, 2006. A double feature program that saw Shane Cottle win both races. It was a fine night of racing. I would suggest to the promoter that, if sprints are to be scheduled as I hope, he does so on weeks that Waynesfield is not running non wing sprints. With all that said I look forward to seeing sprints at Montpelier in '08!

I had heard rumors that the track was sold and/or being promoted by a real promotor.

They ran sprints for a season in 2003. Scotty Weir was track champion. Jon Stanbrough picked up something in the neighborhood of five wins there in Paul Hazen's car. The drop off in the back is really no different than the turns at Gas City. It's still better than hitting a wall.

In the past the UMRA Midgets have been had several dates at the track. The X2RA show was great. Cottle won from the front the first feature and started to on the tail of the second to post his second feature victory of the night.

It could be a tremendous track with someone willing to make a financial and time investment.

The two feature idea is a great idea and very fan friendly. Reverse the order for the second feature. Could be done with two 15 lap features.

What is the contact e-mail for the new promoter. Barhorst, where are you for this track? If scheduling midgets, need to find nights when other tracks aren't running.
