Moving to the Midwest?

Long time reader here but this is my first post. I've been thinking about moving back to the Midwest next May or June and staying for the entire length of the summer. I currently live on the west coast (Oregon) and run both winged and non wing. We only have ASCS 360 motors as of now and I was trying to get some opinions on a good central location be while I was there. The plan is to run as much non wing as possible and then run some winged races if there are any gaps in the schedule. I'm definitely making non wing a priority, though. I've been saving up for a few years now but I'm not on an unlimited budget, either.
Any opinions are appreciated. Thanks, Kyle Miller

Somewhere along I-74 on the Illinois/Indiana boarder area. Danville/Champaign Illinois or a little further East into Indiana. Gives you plenty of chances to run non-wing in Indiana, plus you can put the wing on and race the MOWA races in Central Illinois where a 360 can be competitive on several of the quarter mile tracks in Illinois with the wing.

Not really much of any 360 stuff in Indiana AFAIK. Might look to Ohio for 360 winged stuff though. I'm just a fan so I could be way off on this. I should just keep my mouth closed and let the real experts tell you. BTW welcome to the forum. ![]() |

Limaland in lima ohio runs winged 360's regularly on friday. The NRA runs other winged 360s races in ohio especially eldora. Waynesfield ohio also has nonwinged on saturday. I think there are 360s in the mix.
I mention all of this because they are close to north central indiana. If you were in north central indiana, you could run gas city and/or kokomo in indiana or lima or wayneafield in ohio. Posted via Mobile Device |

There's non-wing open motors at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley MO. just east of Kansas City. They run Friday. It's a 1/3 mile and the ASCS Warriors run here twice this season. We had the USAC sprints come to town a couple weeks ago. Saturday they run winged 360's south of KC at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon MO and Sunday the same at Double X in California MO. There's also ASCS shows at US-36 in Osborn. You can be at any of these from 20 min to about 2 hours from KC. I know you emphasized the non-wing but Valley is the only thing in MO that I know of. We'd love to have you.

Assuming the non-wing prioity, it would seem somewhere on the west side of Indianapolis or nearby communities to the west. Look at Indy it is like the hub of a wheel with interstates providing generally good access to area tracks while providing good access to racing resources.
This would also allow reasonable but not as convenient travel to the occassional winged event. |

Indys West side vote here too. I can be going North, South,East, or West on the interstates in minutes from where I live, and there are an abundance of non wing tracks nearby, and for winged there is either Illinois or Ohio, either one is a pretty easy drive from here.

Thank you all for the replies and messages. It is all greatly appreciated! As I said, this isn't going to happen until the start of next summer. I'm just trying to gather as much information as possible about where I can access quite a few race tracks in a fairly short distance. We only have 5 sprint car tracks in a 7 hour radius from where I currently live (only one within 2 hours).

I would say, if I were in your position, to just leave the wings at home and locate yourself somewhere around Indy....there is plenty of non wing racing to keep you busy without needing to chase a winged race....
As far as your engine goes, the late great Jesse Hockett would occasionally hurt his 410 motor in hotlaps or the heat race and have to drop his 360 in the car to finish the night...usually ran just fine against the 410s...think he ran from the back to a top 3 at Eldora with that little motor once.... Regardless of where you race and where you stay you are going to have a blast and meet lots of great people...enjoy and best of luck! |

Yeah I wouldn't be opposed to running against the 410s with a 360. If nothing else it's great seat time. I guess in a way I'm just in need of a change. I've been racing the same 2-3 tracks since for 7 years (I'm 21 now) and I just feel that it's time to go out and do my own thing.
