I have a page of negatives that were taken at the Vermillion County /Danville, Illinois fairgrounds track in 1988. There are images of many big names of the day including Wolfgang (18), Davis, Jr. (10), Eash (17E), D. Smith (57), Wooley (23), Gaerte (7TW), D Jacobs (40) and Butler (1). Schedules of WoO, All-Star and USAC do not line up to have made this a "sanctioned" event. Is there anyone out there who recalls attending a fair or mid-week event that summer at Danville?
Thanks,

David,
It was an All Star race on a Thursday before the Outlaws Sante Fe Speedway show. I ran the #96 Fisher car that night. I think Hewitt won it in the Shoff 23. You say Wooley was in the 23 and I might have that confused with the 89 race. But it was always a last minute addition by Bert Emick to capitalize on the Friday night Sante Fe shows.

According to Bill Holder's ACSoC book, the All Stars ran at Vermilion County on July 29, 1998, and Jack Hewitt won the feature. This was a Wednesday night, prior to racing at Tri-City Speedway (Joe Gaerte) the following night.

Believe Hewitt was in the 63 that night right up on the wall all the way around Steve was bouncing off of everything trying to run him down could not get close at all.Great crowd that night the place was packed this track did have some great racing there. To bad there is not one thing going on there at all now sitting idle.Looks like it may follow along with some other IL tracks over the years Little Springfield which IL area still has never recovered from closing,Godfrey speedway the scra shows there was fantastic along with the half mile at White City now it looks like Danville is joining the list what a shame.

I attended that one, too.
