RONNIE COMBS WINS AT SHELBYVILLE

A strong field of twenty-five three-quarter midgets were on hand Saturday night when the Midwest TQ Racing League presented by Vincennes University competed at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbyville, Ind.

Greensburg’s Ronnie Combs started on the pole of the feature and led the first eight laps before giving way to defending champion Tate Martz of Rushville. Martz, who had started sixth, took the lead on lap nine only to see Combs battle back and retake the lead by lap thirteen. Combs continued to hold off Martz leading the final thirteen laps to score the victory.

Waldron’s Chris Mann came home third followed by Columbus drivers Rick Robinson and Tim Lynch. Bobby Walton (Indianapolis), Rob Walton (Florence, Ky.), Caleb Faulkner (Columbus), Jake Moore (Muncie) and Corey Eaglin (Elrod) rounded out the top ten.

Mann set the fastest lap in qualifications with a time of 17.81 seconds and Robinson won the Jackson Oil & Solvents Duel for Fuel. Heat winners were Rushville’s Chad Hankins, Morristown’s Brayton Leisure and Martz, while Lawrenceburg’s Jason Willis won the B Main.

For the third time in four races Moore was named the Tony Stewart Racing Rookie of the Race and Leisure’s misfortune in the feature earned him the Duane & Sonja Alexander Hard Luck Driver Award. Will Wilson won the drawing for the Jackson Oil & Solvents gift certificate.

The next race on the MTQRL schedule is Thursday night June 23rd at the Rush County Fair in Rushville, Ind.
