(OCTOBER 8, 2010, PERRIS, CA) Two-time defending Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car champion Mike Spencer is among the latest entries for the 15th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals at Perris Auto Speedway on November 4th, 5th and 6th. Other recent entries are Indiana based drivers Bryan Clauson and Shane Cattle along with Apple Valley, California racer John Aden. Spencer, 29, of Temecula, California, is closing in on his third straight Amsoil USAC/CRA championship. Heading into this weekends race at the Southern California Fair, the Cal Poly Pomona engineering graduate has a commanding 226-point lead in the championship point standings over Danny Sheridan. In addition, his four wins have him tied for the lead in that category with David Cardey and Damion Gardner. Driving Ron Chaffins famous #50 car, Spencer had his best ever Oval Nationals finish last year when he led 15-laps and finished second to Gardner in the 40-lap A main. Clauson, who was born in Carmichael, California and now resides in Noblesville, Indiana, was the runner-up for Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in 2008. Returning to his open wheel racing roots, Clauson had a dream season in 2009 winning the Belleville Midget Nationals, Turkey Night Grand Prix, Night Before the Brickyard and the Indiana Midget Week Championship. In addition, the now 21-year old racer closed the 2009 campaign by leading all 30-laps to win the 2nd Annual Glenn Howard Memorial at The PAS. Clauson has three wins and is currently second in the 2010 Amsoil USAC/CRA National Sprint Car standings. He has five in the USAC Mopar Midget National Series and leads the point hunt in that division. Two weeks ago, Clauson won the Silver Crown portion of the Eldora 4-Crown Nationals driving for Tony Stewart. Clauson was fourth in last years Oval Nationals. Cottle, who will turn 39 on October 22nd, finished second in the Kokomo Speedway point standings in 2010. The lanky driver is currently 16th in the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car standings. He has won three Sprint Car championships at Kokomo (2004, 2005 and 2007) and was the 2005 and 2006 Indiana Midget Week champion. Affectionately known as The Throttle to his fans, Cottle won the worlds most grueling Sprint Car race when he captured the Little 500 (500-lap race on a quarter mile paved track) at Anderson, Indiana in 2008. Cottle last raced in the Oval Nationals in 2008 when he had problems and was the first car out of the A main. Aden is a jack-of-all-trades when it comes to racing. He first made a name for himself as a teenage Speedway Motorcycle racer in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Known as Mr. Excitement, the slender driver won the 2007 Victorville Auto Raceway Sprint Car championship and is currently ranked second to Cody Williams in the 2010 championship standings at the High Desert track. When not racing himself, Aden promotes the Wheel-to-Wheel Raceway track on the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds in Victorville, preps the track surface at the Victorville Auto Raceway and in a throwback to the old days, builds all of his own Sprint Cars and parts. Aden was 18th in the B main at last years Oval Nationals. The Budweiser Oval Nationals is Americas premiere and toughest traditional Sprint Car race. All drivers have to race all three nights as they seek the prestigious title of Budweiser Oval Nationals champion and the $12,500.00 first place paycheck that goes with it. It is a full points paying event for both the Amsoil USAC/CRA and USAC National Sprint Cars. The final two days of the three-day racing fest will also include the California Lightning Sprint Cars. Come on California. The race is in your state and there only 15 California drivers entered so far and 7 Indiana and one North Carolina driver? Yes, before someone reminds me, I realize that you have an equal claim on one or two of the Indiana drivers, but you get my drift.

The early entry deadline is tomorrow, October 9th and we have a race on that date. We should get a lot of our local entries at the pit gate then.

I can't wait to get on a plane and hit my first Oval Nationals this year. Have wanted to do it for several years, but the timing has never worked with other things I had planned.
No too may left coast guys come to IN for Sprint Week anymore. Several run here full-time, but I miss the guys that would tow out for the week. Looking forward to the battle of two non-wing capitals. ![]() |

There is some talk that Tony Jones and the Alexander Race Team may be back next year for Sprint Week.
