What happened to the USAC Sprints at Anderson? They usually had a race there in May... The Banjo 100 or Glen Niebel Classic. I just realized they didn't have one this year lol. Anybody know why?

The Glen Niebel Classic I believe was run earlier than that in April and if memory serves me correctly it was a sprint/midget doubleheader. It could of also been called the Banjo 100 but I don't remember that moniker. This year they had a USAC midget race on 4/11/10 and Bobby East won that race.
If you mean the former Emge 50 (maybe Banjo 50?) sprint car race, that was normally run the Wednesday night before the Little 500. It was replaced this year by the Must See Racing Winged Sprint 60. It was still on the Wednesday night before the Little 5 but USAC wasn't part of it.
The Must See Racing Series televised this race on a delayed basis. It also televised the Little 500 on a delayed basis as well. That probably had a lot to do with the change of series.
They will be running together at Salem this weekend and it will be interesting to see car counts. Last year USAC didn't draw very many sprints or midgets there and Salem dropped the midgets in favor of the winged sprints.
I hope that helps.

I think it all comes down to $$$$. The last USAC sprint car race in 2009 only had 17 cars. Was not a very good show at all. I added up the purse for that night and it was over $20,000. That did not include the sanctioning fee. Crowd that night was ok. They switched to the wings because they get more cars. More of the wing guys support the little 500 than do usac drivers. Every time the wing cars show up they have a chance to break a world record. (helps with advertising). One of the FEW smart moves the track has made recently.

Personally, I am more of a racing fan than a world record fan. But hey, that's just me. It's not how fast it is, it's how good the racing is. If you want to see high speeds, go to Bonneville.

I have always wanted to see what a midget could do at the salt flats. Just wonder what the Drinan/Esslinger white and blue 64 car could get up too?
As somebody who knows some of the track personel. The people that run anderson don't like USAC. And really don't care alot for open wheel racing. I'm sad to see no sprints at anderson but only a few times a year and that's early on in the year. Wish rick would bring sprints back more. Even though its a better track for the midgets. Watching East beat everyone by a lap is not what I call racing from the best sprint car teams in the nation With the wings not only do you get the excitment of qualifying, but you get some darn good racing. I prefer to watch guys take to the high side to make a pass, not just follow the train all night. Bonneville, please,

I think a lot of it has to do with "what am I getting for the money spent"? USAC certainly isn't the drawing card that it once was and when you compare sanctioning fees with other organizations it isn't the same. Not bad mouthing anyone, but a promotor today has to get the most bang for his buck when scheduling shows. Let's be honest here, a USAC show at Anderson certainly doesn't draw like it used to. Rick has tried something different here and I am afraid that if this doesn't draw butts in the seats, then open wheel racing other than the Little 5 at Anderson might be done period. I hope not.
