I am not sure if any of you have read K.O's story about his trip to New York City to pick up an Indy Car but not only is it SPOT ON, it is frigging Hilarious! It is in the latest issue of Sprint Car and Midget Magazine.
Living in New York State and a frequent visitor of The City (Going today as a matter of fact), KO's description of the Venture, Surroundings, People, and State of NYC after 9/11 is CORRECT.. Fortunately for everyone else, most Upstate New Yorker's are much more pleasant. Check this Story out. You may not find it as funny as other New Yorkers but you will laugh, maybe out loud... KO; glad you made it out safely from "OZ" and escaped Tony Soprano's Guys..... Pete G.

I'm in a McDonalds in Cortland, NY right now listening to some guy complain about how when he was eating his dinner here yesterday they messed up his kids happy meal toy. Then he proceeded to say "eat your hamburger" to one of his brats over and over again.
I'm just killing time on my way to Five Mile Point Speedway, which has a "Three Mile Island" kind of ring to it. I just "shot" the Outlaws last night in Fulton, NY which was a great track. I thought some of the Indiana photographers were mean til I got here... This is my sixth day of racing, I'm headed home after this. Western NY state drivers, are much better then MI, not that that says much.... I missed out on the "salt potatoes" at Fulton last night. Tony Stewart and Dave Blaney raced, finishing 20th and 23rd respectively. Steve Kinser won it. It poured right after the anthem's were done. Only track I've been to where the pack trucks have sleeper cabs. Turns 3&4 are down below 1&2, and going down the backstretch there is a quite a drop. No one has said anything good about Oswego since I've been here, which is sad. Apparently the lights weren't functioning during last weekends super modified race. |

Actually the generator that runs the lighting system had a problem when they were lining the supermodified feature up. Originally it took out one section of lights on the front stretch then the entire front stretch which made the track from the fourth turn down the front stretch and into turn one very dark. They tried for about an hour and a half to restore the lighting system each time they felt they had it fixed it would go down a short time later. On the third attempt the supers had actually finally started the race and ran 7 laps when the lights went out again, it could have been a very dangerous situation. Supers on the track at a high rate of speed when the lights went out for the third time, luckily the drivers were notified by radio even before the yellow flag was thrown that they were going yellow which avoided any serious accident. I believe at about 11 P. M. the decision was made to run the last 43 laps on Sunday, pit gates opened at 11 A. M., feature went off just after noon and was over by 1 P. M.. The $10.000.00 to win Mr. Supermodified race is one of the biggest races of the year with just two regular weeks of racing left at Oswego in my opinion they made the right call to complete the race on Sunday. But, as we have seen on this board in the past many people only look at a situation with a negative point of view. Because the race track had no ticket takers on the gate on Sunday and only had one concession stand window open for the brief time the track was going to be open some people turned this into a negative. They started ******** that anyone could walk in and see 43 laps of racing. Last year Oswego started a policy that many tracks have, no coolers allowed in the stands. no food or drink carried in. With no one on the gate to let the fans in too watch 43 laps of racing this rule gave people one more thing to ***** about. Anyone could walk in and bring in whatever they wanted to for 43 laps of racing. Iinstead of seeing that the decision to run Sunday was done for the safety of the drivers they only saw that they paid their money the night before and now they were being wronged. IMO the track did everything they could to try to complete the show on Saturday until they reached a point where it was unsafe for the drivers. Pete, I will have to get a copy of K. O.'s article, sounds like a good story. Patti |
