I just got back in from a great Memorial Day weekend trip to Southern Illinois. This was my first trip back to Belle Clair for at least 20 years and oh the memories that were revived. The place really hasn't changed much since I was a kid and started going to the races there. The covered grandstands have picked up a few coats of paint but it is still the same ole Belleville that I remember.
This place offers exciting midget racing through out the pack. It seems like so long ago that I saw the midgets race there the last time. I was kind of worried that with an outside chance of rain that we might make the trip for nothing. The weather was great and we were able to watch some good racing.
A great night of racing for sure with multiple classes of open wheel cars. The pit area was full of race cars and the racing was fast and furious. Jim Childers with Powr I does a good job keeping the fans informed as to the lineups and race finishes. Brad Kuhn was in control of the 30 lap A main from the beginning. It went caution free and I enjoyed watching Brad work the lapped traffic. Brad Loyett finished second after closing the gap somewhat with Mr. Kuhn.
I couldn't believe that I missed Andrew S. Quinn.

He always talks about little Belleville but I couldn't find him. He may have been there, but he remained out of sight if he was. We were leaving the parking lot and I followed a vehicle out that apparently was mortboyz from here on the IOW board. At least that is what I gathered by the license plate.
They ran a quick show that ended before 9:30 PM. That allowed RacinBabe (Kelly) and I to walk through the pits and look at some of the race cars. Andrew Felker added a little excitement to the micro A main when he climbed the backstretch wall just in front of us.

He was able to keep it upright and went on the claim the victory.
This trip now makes me even more determined to get back "home" more often to see the action at Belle Clair.

Belle Clair was my original plan for Sunday night. However after having friends in town all last week from my hometown in Maine, and then later in the week my Chili Bowl room mate from Tulsa and his kids staying at my house, and playing tourguide and getting about 3 hours a night sleep each night it finally caught up with me. I didnt want to arrive back in Indy just in time to go to work.
Besides,by going to Kokomo Sunday night it gave Aero and Crawfordsville 410 fans some entertainment by trying to throw the little flowers off the clover into my mouth when I fell asleep in the char at Bobs motorhome!
Belle Clair has a doubleheader in a couple weeks for their anniversery and I do plan on being there for that.

I can't believe that we were sitting in the same section and didn't meet. Maybe next trip out we will try to get there earlier to "see" who else is there.
